Theodore R. McKeldin, Governor 1199
(e) Removal of Names. If any person so notified to appear at such
session has not yet appeared and shown cause why his name should
not be erased from the registry, the board shall cause his name
to be erased and marked as disqualified, dead or removed, as the case
may be, unless a majority of the board are satisfied of their own
knowledge or upon competent testimony that such person is entitled
to have his name retained on the registry.
(f) Armed Forces and Absentees. No person's name shall be
erased from the registry during his service in the Armed Forces of
the United States or while qualified to vote as an absentee as herein
otherwise provided.
(g) Notice. Under the heading of "Remarks" opposite each name
erased shall be stated the facts as to such erasure, the date thereof,
and the grounds and evidence on which made. The member of the
board acting as clerk shall notify any person whose name has been
erased from the registry of such fact. Such notice shall be sent by
mail to the last known address of such person as found on the registry
books, and within two days after the name has been so erased.
(h) Cards and Loose-Leaf Pages. If cards or loose-leaf pages are
used, the boards of registry, instead of drawing a line in red ink
through the name and other entries with respect to a voter, shall
certify to the Board of Supervisors of Elections of said county the
names of all persons whom they have determined not to be qualified
voters. Upon receipt of such certification, the Board of Supervisors
of Elections shall make an appropriate notation to this effect on said
voter's card or loose-leaf page, and shall remove said card or page
from the registry book. The elimination of all names from said
registry books, whether by reason of death, removal, disqualifica-
tion or otherwise, shall be effected in like manner by the Supervisors
of Elections of said county upon the certification of the boards of
registry. All such cards or loose-leaf pages removed from said
registry books shall be retained in the office of the Supervisors of
Elections for a period of five years, open to public inspection.
34. Certification of Registers. Each board of registry at the end
of the session on revision day shall compare and correct the two
registers and make them agree. The officers having them respec-
tively in their custody shall then immediately under the last name
registered under each letter of the registers sign their names, except
that this provision shall not apply if cards or loose-leaf pages are
used. All of said officers of registration shall then subscribe, at the
end of each register, a certificate in substance as follows:
"We, the undersigned, constituting the Board of Registry in..........
............................precinct or district of.................................... county,
in the State of Maryland, do jointly and severally certify that, at
the registration of voters, in said precinct or district closed on this
....................................day of...................................., 19........, there were
registered by us the names which in this book are entered and that
the number of registered and qualified voters was and is the number
of....................................................".
(Signatures)
The registers shall by noon of the second day thereafter be re-
turned to the Board of Supervisors of Elections.
