ing house pursuant to public notice, did direct and instruct the pre-
sident and directors of said bank to adopt the most prompt and
effectual means to close the concerns of the same, with a view to
an early dissolution of the institution; therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
present president and directors of the Conococheague bank, viz:
Jacob T. Towson, Thomas Buchanan, John Bowles, William B.
Williams, Thomas C. Brent, Daniel Schnebly, Edward G. Willi-
ams and Frisby Tilghman, be and they are hereby authorised and
empowered, to proceed in carrying into effect the intention of the
stockholders, in closing the concerns of said bank.
2. And be it enacted, That a majority of the present board shall
have, power to fill all vacancies which may happen in the direction,
during the time it may require to bring the concerns of the said
bank to a close, and that in case of the death or resignation of the
present president of said bank, a majority of the directors shall
have power to appoint some other person to act as president, and
shall also have power to appoint such other officers and agents, as
in their judgment may be necessary to assist them in carrying into
effect the wishes of the stockholders in bringing said institution to
a close.
3. And be it enacted, That so much of the seventh section of the
original act to which this is a supplement, as relates to the election
of eight directors on the first Monday of April in each and every
year, be and the same is hereby repealed.
4. And be it enacted, That the said board be and they are hereby
authorised and empowered, to sell or dispose of the interest of the
said bank in the Cumberland road stock, and to transfer to the
purchaser or purchasers thereof the same rights, privileges and im-
munities, that are now possessed by the said bank under the act in-
corporating the said turnpike company.

CHAP. CXLIII.
An Act to authorise the Levy Court of Anne-Arundel County to erect and estab-
lish a Warehouse at Chew's Cove, in said County, for the reception and in-
spection of Tobacco.
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
justices of the levy court of Anne Arundel county, be and they are
hereby authorised and required, to determine and fix upon the most
proper situation at Chew's Cove, in said county, fur the reception
and inspection of tobacco.
2. And be it enacted, That the said justices shall have full power,
on the application of any person or persons, to erect a warehouse
at his or their own proper cost and expense, on the spot or place
designated and fixed on by the said justices, and also to procure or
purchase the necessary ground for the erection of the same, to au-
thorise such person or persons to proceed to erect the same; and
the said warehouse, when so erected and finished, with the neces-
sary beams, screws, scales, weights, brands and marking irons,
and all other things necessary for the. inspection of tobacco, shall
be deemed and considered a public warehouse, and the proprietor
or proprietors thereof may demand, and shall be entitled to receive,
one dollar money of the United States for each hogshead of tobac-
co inspected at the said warehouse, before such hogshead shall be
removed, as a full compensation for the expense of erecting such
