sum raised by the drawing of the said last mentioned lottery, after
the payment of incidental expenses thereby incurred, will be re-
quired to be paid into the state treasury for and on account of the
aforesaid tax, amounting to fifteen thousand three hundred dollars,
whereby the said John Owen and William Gibson, junior, will be
deprived of the means produced by the said last mentioned lottery
for paying the notes given by them, in their individual capacity, as
aforesaid, to the said banks, for the aforesaid sum of thirteen
thousand dollars, with interest thereon as aforesaid; and the said
John Owen and William Gibson, junior, will consequently be sub-
jected to the burthen of discharging those notes out of their own
private funds: And whereas, injustice and equity, as also by vir-
tue of the aforesaid bond of conveyance, the said John Owen and
William Gibson, junior, are entitled to be secured and indemnified
to the extent of the value of said lot, from all loss arising, or likely
to arise from their accountability in their individual capacity as
aforesaid, for the aforesaid sum of thirteen thousand dollars, with
interest thereon as aforesaid;
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
upon the payment into the state treasury of the aforesaid sum of
fifteen thousand three hundred dollars, due as aforesaid by the com-
missioners or managers of the said second lottery, to the state, for
and on account of the tax imposed on said lottery by the act of
eighteen hundred and seventeen before recited, the said John Owen
and William Gibson, junior, or either of them, be and they are
hereby authorised to discharge their notes, so given as aforesaid, to
the Bank of Baltimore and Bank of Maryland, for the sum of
thirteen thousand dollars, in manner as aforesaid, by surrendering
to the said banks the aforesaid bond of conveyance, executed by
them on the thirty-first day of May eighteen hundred and seven-
teen as aforesaid, or in case the said banks refuse to come into that
arrangement, that the said John Owen and William Gibson, junior,
be and they are hereby authorised to sell and dispose of the said lot
to the best advantage, as soon as they shall have fully paid and dis-
charged their notes to the banks aforesaid, with the interest thereon
due as aforesaid, and any other existing claim against the said in-
stitution or the property aforesaid, to be adjusted by the treasurer
of the western shore, provided before they proceed to make any
sale, they shall give bond, with security, to the state of Maryland,
in the sum of ten thousand dollars, to be approved by the treasu-
rer of the western shore, conditioned for the payment of the sur-
plus of the funds arising from said sale, if any, into the state trea-
sury, for the use of the state of Maryland.
2. And be it enacted, That all the right, title and interest what-
soever, of the state of Maryland, in and to the aforesaid lot of
ground, be and the same is hereby relinquished, except as excepted
in the foregoing proviso; and that upon the provisions of this act
bring complied with, the commissioners aforesaid be and they are
hereby discharged from all accountability in relation to the lotteries
aforesaid. ——

1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from
and after the first day of April next, no swine belonging to the in-
