CHAP. 121.
Proviso

in the months of June and November next, and in the months of
May and November thereafter in each year, declare, a dividend of
so much of the actual net profits, not exceeding three-fourths of
said profits, which shall have accrued to the stud bank during the
half year next preceding the time of declaring such dividend, as
they may deem expedient and proper, which dividends shall be
payable to the stockholders in the months of June and December
next, after they shall be declared; and no such dividend which shall
be so declared by the said president and directors, shall be deemed
or considered as impairing the capital stuck of the said bank: And
provided, that nothing herein contained shall have any effect or
operation unless approved of by the directors of the said bank,
chosen at the election of such directors next after the passage of
this law, and that the present directors cause this act to be published
in three of the newspapers in the city of Baltimore for three weeks
next previous to such election.

CHAP. CXXII.

An Act for the relief of Henry Ellis, of Saint Mary's County.
whereas it has been represented to this general assembly, by
the petition of Henry Ellis, of Saint-Mary's county, that on the
eleventh of October last, in the night, the constable of his hundred
brought to his house a man by the name of William Stephen, who
had been arrested for felony, and by his endeavouring to make his
escape was dangerously wounded by the officer, and that he had to
attend and accommodate the prisoner for nearly four weeks; therefore,
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
levy court of Saint-Mary's county, at their next levy, be and they
are hereby authorised and directed, to assess and levy on the as-
sessable property of said county, the sum of fifty dollars, for the
use and benefit of Henry Ellis, as a compensation for his trouble
and expense in supporting and attending on William Stephen, who
was left by the officer in his care, and that the same be collected by
the collector of the county, and by him paid to Henry Ellis, or his
order.

CHAP. CXXIII.

A Supplement to the act, entitled, An act to encourage the Building of Horse
Mills and Wind Mills in Dorchester and Saint Mary's Counties.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland. That all the
provisions of the act to which this is a supplement, be and the same
are hereby extended to the citizens of Charles county.

CHAP. CXXIV.

An Act for the benefit of Horatio C. M'Eldery and George Forbes, of Charles
County.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That Ho-
ratio C. M'Eldery and George Forbes, of Charles county, be and
they are hereby authorised to bring into tins state negroes Frede-
rick and Bill, lately the property of Walter Jenifer, and formerly
the property of the late Doctor Daniel Jenifer, and the same to hold
as slaves: Provided, that nothing herein contained shall authorise
them, or either of them, to sell or dispose of the said negroes, or
either of them, for live years, any law to the contrary notwith-
standing; And provided, that nothing herein contained shall be con-
strued to affect any right or title which the said negroes may have
to freedom, otherwise than by being brought into this state.
