said removal, and that the said negro shall not be sold to any per-
son residing out of the state, or for the purpose of being removed
therefrom, until the expiration of three years after he shall be
brought into this state.

CHAP. VI.

An Act to settle and ascertain the Salary of the Members of the Council for the
ensuing year.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That each
member of the council shall be entitled to receive for the ensuing
year, the sum of five hundred and thirty four dollars, current mo-
ney, for his salary.

CHAP. VII.

An Act to extend the time of completing the Turnpike Road leading from
Boonsborough to Swearingen's Ferry, in Washington County.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
further term of four years is hereby granted to the president,
managers and company, of the Boonsborough Turnpike Compa-
ny, to complete the turnpike road leading from Boonsborough to
Swearingen's Ferry, in Washington county.

CHAP. VIII.

An Act to repeal certain Acts therein mentioned.
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That an
act, entitled An act to alter and amend the act, entitled. An act
for the encouragement of such persons as will undertake to build
water mills, passed at December session eighteen hundred and six-
teen, chapter seventy-six, and an act, entitled, An act to make per-
manent the act, entitled. An act to alter and amend the act, entit-
led, An act for the encouragement of such persons as will under-
take to build water mills, passed at December session eighteen
hundred and seventeen, chapter one hundred and eighty, so far as
they relate to St. Mary's, Worcester and Somerset counties, be
and the same are hereby repealed.

CHAP. IX.

An Act to authorise George A. Smith, late Sheriff of Caroline County, to com-
plete his Collections.

1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
George A. Smith, late sheriff of Caroline county, be and he is
hereby authorised and empowered, to collect until the first day of
January eighteen hundred and twenty-one, all balances due him as
sheriff of said county, in the same manner which he could or
night have done within the time limited by law, any law to the
contrary notwithstanding.
2. And be it enacted. That it shall be the duty of the said George
A. Smith, before he proceeds to execute or distrain the property of
any person or persons for fees or public dues, in virtue of this act,
to deliver to, or leave at the last place of abode of such person or
persons, his, her, or their executors or administrators, chargeable
with the same, at least thirty days previous to levying such execu-
tion or distress, an account, written in words at full length, of the
fees or public dues demanded of him, her or them, with an affi-
davit thereto annexed, if required, that he hath not received any
