1819.

CHAP. CLXXVIII.

An Act authorising the Levy Court of Baltimore County to assess and levy a
sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the le-
vy court of Baltimore county be and they are hereby authorised
and empowered, to assess and levy on the assessable property of
said county, a sum of money not exceeding three hundred dollars,
to repair or rebuild a bridge over the Herring Run, on the road
leading from Baltimore to Bell-Air, and the same when so assessed
and levied, shall be paid to such persons as said court may think pro-
per, upon their giving bond or bonds, with approved security for the
faithful performance of their duty; Provided however, that the said
court be and they are hereby authorised to suspend all or any
proceedings under this act, except they shall be of opinion that
the rebuilding or repairing of said bridge should be indispensibly
necessary.

Proviso

CHAP. CLXXIX.

An Act for the Relief of Rufus Eddy.
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from
and after the passage of this act, the commissioners of insolvent
debtors for the city and county of Baltimore, be authorised, and
they are hereby authorised, to receive the application of Rufus
Eddy of the city of Baltimore, for the benefit of the insolvent laws
of this state, and to act upon and report the same to the county
court, without requiring proof of his residence in the state two
years prior to such application, and the county court of Baltimore
is empowered to give the said Rufus Eddy a discharge, provided he
shall comply with all the other requisites of the insolvent laws of
this state.

CHAP. CLXXX.

An Act for the relief of Joseph Tomkins, of the City of Baltimore.
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
judges of the county court of Baltimore county, and the commis-
sioners of insolvent, debtors in the city of Baltimore, be and they
are hereby authorised and required, to afford to Joseph Tompkins
the benefit of the insolvent laws of this state, in as full and ample
manner, to every intent and purpose, as if he had resided two
whole years in this state before the time of his application for the
same, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAP. CLXXXI.

An Act to Pay the Civil List, and other expenses of Civil Government.
Whereas those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour, to
the public, ought to receive a reasonable compensation for their ser-
vices;
1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
following officers of the civil government, for the time being, shall
be entitled to receive at the rate of the following salaries, in current
money, for the ensuing year, to wit: The treasurer of the western
shore, two thousand dollars; the treasurer of the eastern shore five
hundred dollars; the auditor five hundred dollars; the clerk of the
council one thousand dollars; the clerk of the senate one hundred
and fifty dollars; the clerk of the house of delegates three hundred
