time of his acquiring the same, or any part thereof; Provided, that
nothing in this act contained shall in any manner defeat or affect
any right, title or claim, to the said real estate, or any part there-
of, acquired by any person or persons before the passage of this act.
2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act contained shall be
construed to make valid any sale of any part of the said real estate,
made by the said Robert Dods to a certain Henry Myers, previous
to the passage of this act, without the consent of the said Henry
Myers.

CHAPTER 40.
An act to alter and change the name of Samuel Ulrey, of
Frederick, county, to the name of Klein.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the said Samuel Ulrey, after the
passage of this act, to take upon himself the surname of Klein, in-
stead of his present surname, and also for the descendants of the
said Samuel Ulrey to take upon themselves the surname of Klein;
and the name of the said Samuel Ulrey shall be and is hereby chan-
ged and altered to the name of Samuel Klein; and the said Samuel
Ulrey, and the heirs of his body, shall at all times hereafter bo
called by and hold and use the surname of Klein only.
2, And be it enacted, That all securities, promises, contracts, as-
surances, deeds, and lawful acts whatsoever, heretofore made, or
hereafter to be made, by or to the said Samuel Ulrey, by the name
and surname of Samuel Klein, shall be of the same force and effect,
and of equal avail, to all intents and purposes, as if the name and
surname of Samuel Klein had been his true and proper name and
surname from his birth, any law or custom to the contrary not-
withstanding.

CHAPTER 41.
An act for the benefit of Francis Adams, of John, of Charles
County.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the levy court of Charles county be, and they are hereby di-
rected and empowered, at their levy court annually, to assess and
levy on the assessable property of said county, a sum of money
not exceeding forty dollars, for the support and maintenance of
Francis Adams, of John, of said county, so long as they shall see
cause, and that the same be collected annually by the collector or
collectors of said county, and paid to the said Francis Adams, of
John, or to his order.

CHAPTER 42.
An act for the support of Elizabeth Mason, of Saint Ma-
ry-'s County.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the levy court of Saint Mary's county be, and
they are hereby authorised and empowered, at their levy court, an-
nually, so long as they shall see cause, to assess and levy on the
assessable property of said county, the sum of fifty dollars, for
the support and maintenance of the said Elizabeth Mason, and
