CHAP. 34.

If road is not
commenced in
two years, state to
resume the rights,

&c.

Damages to be es-

timated.

18. And be it enacted, That if the said company do not proceed
to carry on said work within two years after the passage of this
art. or shall not within five years thereafter complete the said road,
it shall be lawful or the legislature of this state to resume the
rights, privileges and franchises, by this act granted to the said
company.
11. And be it enacted, That the county court of Washington
county shall appoint five commissioners, who shall estimate the
amount of damages sustained by any person or persons by reason
of said road passing through his, her, or their lands, or by taking
of stone, gravel, or other materials, for the use of said road, in
cases where the parties cannot agree, which estimate shall be final
in determining such damages.

CHAPTER 35.

An act to enable Robert Gorsuch, to complete his collec-
tions in Baltimore, county.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Robert Gorsuch of the city of Baltimore, be and he is hereby
empowered to proceed, as heretofore, authorised, in the collection
of the taxes in Baltimore county, until the last day of January,
eighteen hundred and twenty-one.

CHAPTER 36.

An act to authorise the Levy Court of Baltimore county to
assess and levy on the assessable property of said coun-
ty a sum of money to build a Bridge over the Great Falls
of Gunpowder at Merredith's Ford in said county.
Whereas it is represented to this general assembly of Mary-
land, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of Baltimore county,
that a bridge is much wanting over the great falls of Gunpowder,
at Merredith's ford, and their prayer appearing reasonable, there-
fore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the levy court of Baltimore county be and they are hereby
authorised and directed, to assess and levy on the assessable pro-
perty of said county, such sum or sums of money, not exceeding
two thousand dollars, as they in their judgment shall deem suffi-
cient, to build a bridge over the Great Falls of Gunpowder at
Merredith's ford, in Baltimore county, and the same, when assess-
ed and levied, shall be collected and paid unto John Merryman, of
Benjamin, John Yellott, junior, and Richard M'Gaw, who are here-
by appointed commissioners to superintend the building of said
bridge, and they, or a majority of them, shall and are hereby au-
thorised to employ a workman or workmen to build the said bridge,
and the same complete as soon as practicable.
2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the commis-
sioners to take bond or bonds from the said workman or workmen,
in such penalty and security as the levy court of Baltimore, county
shall direct, conditioned for the faithful building and constructing
of said bridge, and that the said bond or bonds shall not be. cancell-
ed until said commissioners shall have made report to the, levy
court of Baltimore county that said bridge, has been finished agreea-
ble to contract.
