CHAPTER 210.
An act providing for the increase of the Revenue of this
State, by laying a tax on Brokers and Lottery Office
Keepers.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the first day of May next, no person shall exercise
the employment of a broker in buying and selling such bank notes
as by the la\vs of this state it is or may be lawful for a broker to
buy or sell, or lottery tickets, until he shall have previously obtain-
ed a licence therefor from the governor and council.
2. And be it enacted, That before any broker shall proceed to act
as such, he shall take an oath, or affirmation, as the case may be, to
the effect following, viz. "I do solemnly promise and swear, (or
affirm,) that I will truly, honestly and faithfully, execute the office
of broker, between party and party, in all things relating to the
duty of the said office, without fraud or collusion, and to the best
of my skill and judgment.
3. And be it enacted, That no person shall be admitted to act as
a broker aforesaid, until lie shall, with good and sufficient sureties,
to be approved by the treasurer of the western shore of Maryland,
enter into bond to the state of Maryland, in the penal sum of
twenty thousand dollars, conditioned to the effect following: "The
conditions of this obligation is such, that if the above bound
do and shall well and truly use, execute and perform the office
and employment of a broker, between party and party, without
fraud, collusion, imposition, or any corrupt or crafty devices, and
do and shall faithfully execute every trust committed to him as a
broker, then this obligation to be void, else to remain in full force
And virtue in law."
4. And be it enacted, That the bond so as aforesaid to be execut-
ed, shall be lodged in the office of the clerk of the court of appeals,
to be by him recorded, and upon an office copy thereof, suits may
be instituted, in which the plea of non est factum shall not be allowed.
5. And be it enacted, That the licence as aforesaid shall have
continuance for one year only; and if any person not being licens-
ed as aforesaid, shall act as broker aforesaid, be shall pay and for-
feit two thousand dollars for each and every offence, to be recovered
by action of debt, one half to the use of him who shall sue for the
same, and the other half to the use of the state.
6. And be it enacted, That, every person obtaining a licence as
aforesaid, shall pay therefor the sum of five hundred dollars to the
treasury of the western shore.

CHAPTER 211.

An act to prevent swine from going at large in Queen's
Town, in Queen Anne's county.
WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, that sundry
persons do raise and keep great number of swine, and suffer them
to remain at large in said town, to the great injury of the inhabi-
tants thereof, therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the first day of May next, it shall not be lawful for
any person or persons whatsoever to raise or keep any swine with-
in the said town, or within one half mile from the centre thereof,
