as other banks

a fund tor the purpose of supporting county schools, to be equally
divided among the several counties of this state, and paid over in
equal portions to such persons in each county as the legislature
may hereafter appoint.
35. And be it enacted, That if the president and directors of said
bank shall at any time refuse to pay specie for their notes, when
called on, the charter shall be and is hereby declared null and void;
Provided, incase of such forfeiture the said bank shall be autho-
rised to recover, and liable to pay all debts actually due at the
time of said forfeiture, as if no forfeiture had happened.
36. And be it enacted, That if the president or any directors, the
cashier, or any other officer of the said bank, shall be concerned,
directly or indirectly, in purchasing any note or notes, bill or bills,
at more than lawful discount or interest, and information thereof
be given, and supported to the satisfaction of a majority of the
board or quorum of directors, his or their seat or seats of office
shall be vacated, and the directors shall fill up such vacancy or va-
cancies.
37. And be it enacted, That this act shall continue and be in force
until the first day of November eighteen hundred and thirty-five,
and until the end of the next session happening thereafter.

CHAPTER 39.

A Further additional Supplement to the act to Incorporate
the Stockholders of the Mechanics Bank of Baltimore.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
inasmuch as the number of directors to be elected by the stock-
holders of the Mechanics Bank of Baltimore, has been diminished
by the operation of a clause in the act to which this is a supple-
ment, it shall be deemed a sufficient compliance with the intent and
meaning of the charter of the said bank, as now amended, if a ma-
jority of the whole number of directors, howsoever elected, or ap-
pointed, are practical mechanics or manufacturers, actually car-
rying on as their principal occupation some mechanical or manu-
facturing business.
2. And be it enacted, That the president and directors of the
Mechanics Bank of Baltimore, or a majority of them, shall have
the same right and power to grant discounts, in their discretion,
unrestricted as to extent of time, amount and security, in the same
proportion to the present or any future amount of capital actually
paid in, as the president and directors of any other bank within
this state, in which the state holds stock, have power to do the
same, any thing in the act to which this is a supplement to the
contrary notwithstanding.

CHAPTER 40.

An act for the relief of Ann Jefferis of the City of Balti-
more.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said Ann Jefferis be and she is hereby divorced from bed, board,
and mutual cohabitation, with her husband Gravener M. Jefferis.
2. And be it enacted, That all the right and title which the said
Gravener M. Jefferis, by virtue of his marriage with said Ann
Jefferis, had acquired to any property which she now is or may be-
