7. And be it enacted, That no subscriber or stockholder, or mem-
ber of said company, shall bo answerable in his person or indivi-
dual property for any contract or engagement of said company,
for any losses, deficiencies or failures, of the capital stock of said
company, but the whole of said capital stock, together with all pro-
perty, rights and credits, belonging to said institution, and nothing
more, shall at all times bo answerable for the demands against said
company.
8. And be it enacted, That the interests or rights the. several and
respective members of said corporation may have to the property
thereof shall be deemed and taken to be personal property, and
shall be transferrable and go in distribution as such.
9. And be it enacted, That transfers of stock shall be made in
person or by attorney on the books of the company.

CHAPTER 152.

An act to authorise the building of a Bridge over the River
Patapsco at the place called Hammond's Ferry.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
Margaret Hammond, Harriet Hammond, and Samuel J. Donaldson,
of the city of Baltimore, their heirs or assigns, shall have full power
and authority, at any time within five years hereafter, to build and
erect, at their private expense, a bridge over the Patapsco river at
a place commonly called Hammond's Ferry, which bridge when
erected shall be of sufficient width for all carriages to pass and re-
pass over the same, and that when said bridge shall be erected, it
shall and may be lawful for the said Margaret Hammond, Harriet
Hammond, and Samuel J. Donaldson, their heirs and assigns, fore-
ver thereafter, to ask, demand and receive, as toll for passing over
said bridge, according to the following rates, to wit: for each foot
passenger four cents; a man and horse twelve and a half cents;
four wheeled carriages, with two horses, thirty seven and a half
cents; with four horses, fifty cents; a horse without a rider four
cents; horned cattle four cents each; and sheep and hogs each two
cents; Provided always, and it is the true intent and meaning of
this act, that the said Margaret Hammond, Harriet Hammond, and
Samuel J. Donaldson, their heirs or assigns, shall not be permitted,
in virtue of the power hereby vested m them, to obstruct, or in
any manner impede, the passing and repassing of vessels of any
size or description in said river, at the place aforesaid, but the said
Margaret Hammond, Harriet Hammond, and Samuel J. Donaldson,
their heirs or assigns, shall be obliged to have a free passage kept
open for the same either by draw-bridge or otherwise.
2. And be it enacted, That the said Margaret Hammond, Harriet
Hammond, and Samuel J. Donaldson, their heirs or assigns, shall
have full power and authority to sell the land on both sides of the
river Patapsco, at the said place called Hammond's Ferry, with
the privilege hereby granted, to any person or persons, or body
corporate, now in existence, or hereafter to be created, who on
making a purchase of said lands and privilege shall be entitled to
all the benefit thereof.
3. And be it enacted, That should the said bridge be suffered to
become out of repair so as to render said bridge dangerous or im-
possible to be passed and repassed, except when the same may be
