county, in this, state, and wishes to purchase real property in this
state; but not being naturalized, he is incapable of holding real
property, and that he intends to become a citizen of this state,
as soon as the law will permit; Therefore,
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the said Edmond Evans may take, acquire and hold, any
real property within this state, by deed, as amply and fully, and
for the same estate, as if he were a citizen duly naturalized; Pro-
vided always, that the said Edmond Evens shall, within twelve
months after he is capable of becoming a citizen, naturalize him-
self agreeable to the laws of the United States, but if the said
Edmond Evens should die before he becomes naturalized, nothing
in this proviso shall prevent him transmitting or transferring his
said property, by descent or devise, to any person or persons be-
ing a citizen or citizens of the United States, and residing therein,
capable in law to hold the same.

CHAPTER 230.
An act to pay the Civil List, and other expenses of Civil
Government.
Whereas those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour,
to the public, ought to receive a reasonable compensation for
their services,
Sec. I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That c
the following officers of the civil government, for the time being,
shall be entitled to receive at the rate of the following salaries,
in current money, for the ensuing year, to wit: The treasurer
of the western shore, two thousand dollars; the treasurer of the
eastern shore, four hundred and fifty dollars; the auditor, eight
hundred dollars; the clerk of the council, one thousand dollars;
the clerk of the senate, one hundred and fifty dollars; the clerk
of the house of delegates, three hundred dollars; the printer
to the state, fourteen hundred dollars; the messenger to the
council, two hundred and fifty dollars.
2. And be it enacted, That all monies which shall remain in the
treasury after discharging the journal of accounts, and all unap-
propriated money which may come into the treasury, he first ap-
plied to the payment of the civil list for the ensuing year.

CHAPTER 231.
An act to authorise the Sale of a House and Lot at The
Hole in the Wall, Talbot County, for the benefit of Su-
san and Lydia Cox, the infant daughters of Charles
Cox, deceased.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Elizabeth Cox, of Easton, in Talbot county, spinster, be
and she is hereby authorised and empowered, to sell at public or
private sale all the right, title, interest and claim, of Susan Cox
and Lydia Cox, minors, the only daughters and heirs at law of
Charles Cox, late of Talbot county, deceased, in and to all that
lot or parcel of land, the same being part of a tract of land
called "Sandy Hill," situate, lying and being, in Talbot county
aforesaid, at or near a village called The Hole in the Wall, that
