3. And be it enacted, That the said Joseph Darden, before he
derives any benefit from or under this act, shall lodge his collec-
tion books in the clerk's office of Talbot county, to be opened for
the inspection of all persons interested therein.

CHAPTER 199.

An act authorising the appointing Inspectors and Wood-
Corders, and to regulate the Cording of Fire Wood
brought by Water to the City of Baltimore for Sale.
Sec. l. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
council, shall immediately after the passage of this act, and in
every year thereafter, appoint six inspectors and corders of the
fire-wood brought by water to the city of Baltimore for sale.
2. And be it enacted, That the said inspectors and wood-cord-
ers hereafter to be appointed, before they enter upon the execu-
tion of their offices, shall make the following oath or affirmation,
(as the case may be) before some person authorised to administer
the same: " I do solemnly swear, (or affirm) that I will faithful-
ly, truly and impartially, according to the best of my judgment,
•kill and understanding, execute, do and perform, the office and
duty of inspector and wood-corder, according to the true intent
and meaning of the laws of this state relative to the same; so
help me God."
3. And be it enacted, That every inspector and wood-corder
for examining and measuring fire-wood in the city and county
of Baltimore, shall receive one sixteenth of a dollar for each and
every cord so measured by them, to be paid by the seller thereof;
and no inspector and wood corder, either by himself or by any
other person or persons whomsoever, for or in trust for him, shall
buy, trade or barter, for any fire-wood on the way to, or brought
to the city aforesaid, other than for his own family's use, nor
shall any inspector and wood-corder be concerned in bringing
any wood to the said city of Baltimore by water for sale, or
own any vessel in which the same may be brought.
4. And be it enacted, That if any person or persons bringing
any fire-wood by water to the city of Baltimore for sale, shall
sell and deliver the same before it has been corded and measured
by some one of the inspectors and wood-corders appointed in
virtue of this act, or shall neglect or refuse to have the same
corded and measured, or after the same has been measured, shall
alter the measurement, or sell the same by other measurement, or
if any person or persons shall knowingly purchase and receive any
fire-wood brought by water to the city of Baltimore, which hath
not been corded, measured and passed, by one of the inspectors
and wood-corders aforesaid, shall forfeit and pay two dollars for
every cord, and so in proportion for any less quantity of wood so
sold and delivered by him or them, to be recovered by warrant, in
the name of the informer, one half for the use of the informer,
and the other half for the benefit of the city of Baltimore, be-
fore a justice of the pence, in the same manner as other small
debts are recovered under the act, entitled, An act for the speedy
