erset county are hereby empowered and directed to assess and
levy the amount of such damages as shall be ascertained by the
commissioners aforesaid, which sum of money shall be levied,
collected and paid out as other county charges are levied co-
lected and paid over; also that the commissioners hereby
appointed shall have an allowance of two dollars for each day
they shall attend in discharge of the duties therein required.

CHAPTER 27.

An act for the relief of John Adams, of Washington County
Sec. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That, the title to the real property of him, the said
John Adams, heretofore intended to be vested in him the said
John Adams, his heirs or assigns, by deed purchase or other-
wise fairly obtained, be and the same is hereby as amply and
fully vested in him the said John Adams and his heirs, to all
intents and purposes, as would have been if he had been duly
naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States; Pro-
vided, nothing in this act shall in any manner defeat or be
construed to defeat any right title or claim to said property, or
any part thereof, acquired by any person or persons whatever
before the passage of this act.
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all deeds conveyance
grants or assurances for passing or transferring any real prop-

erty made to and by the said John Adams, before he became
naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States, be and
the same are hereby made valid and effectual to every intent
and purpose whatsoever, and that the title or interest in the
said real property intended to be conveyed thereby, shall be as
good and available in law as if the said deeds, conveyances
grants or assurances had been made and executed since the
said John Adams hath become a naturalized citizen agreeably
to the laws of the United States.

CHAPTER 28.

An act to authorise Walter Slicer of Allegheny County to im-
port and bring into this State, a certain negro therein
named.
WHEREAS, Walter Slicer by his petition to this General
Assembly sets forth, that he is desirous to purchase and bring
into this state a certain negro man named Jack from the state
of Virginia; Therefore,
Sec.1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the said Walter Slicer be, and he is hereby
authorised and empowered at any time within twelve months
after the passage of this act, and after he shall have purchased
the said negro, to remove and bring into this state the aforesaid
negro man named Jack, and him the said Jack to hold as a
slave, any law to the contrary notwithstanding; Provided,
that nothing herein contained shall deprive the said negro Jack
of any claim to freedom heretofore acquired, And provided also
that the said Waiter Slicer register the said negro in Alleghany
county court in the same manner as by law is directed.
