CHAPTER 71.

An act to incorporate a company to make a turnpike, road
from the square in the town of Boonsborough in Wash-
ington county, to Swearingen's ferry on the Potomac
river.

1815.

SEC. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That a company be incorporated for making
a turnpike road, in Washington county, from the square
in the town of Boonsborough, to Swearingen's ferry, on
the Potomac river.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That subscription books
be opened for a capital stock of eighty thousand dollars in
shares of twenty dollars each, at Boonsborough, under the
direction of Henry Locker jr. Ezra Slifer and John Adams;
at Sharpsburgh, in Washington county, under the directi-
on of George Smith, Jacob Mumma and George Hedrick
at Swearingen's ferry, under the direction of John Black-
ford, John Brien and Thomas Buchanan; at Middle-
town, in Frederick county, under the direction of Hen-
ry Stemple, Thomas Powell and John Stemple: at Fre-
derick Town, under the direction of John M'Pherson,
George Baer, and Joseph Swearingen; at Baltimore un-
der the direction of Francis Foreman, John Vanlear and
James Caldwell, who are hereby appointed commission-
ers for the purpose aforesaid, who shall on or before the
first Monday in March next, procure books, and in each
enter as follows to wit: " We whose names are hereunto
subscribed, do promise to pay to the president, managers
and company of the Boonsborough turnpike road com-
pany, the sum of dollars for every share of
stock in the said company set opposite to our respective
names. Witness our hands, this day of
eighteen hundred and; and shall give notice in
one of the public newspapers in the city of Baltimore,
one in Frederick Town and one in Hager's Town, for
one month at least, of the times when, and places where
the said books will be open to receive subscriptions of
stock for the said company; at which times and places at
least two of the said respective commissioners shall at-
tend, and shall permit and suffer all persons who shall of-
fer to subscribe in person or by attorney duly authorised,
in the said books, which shall be kept open for that purpose
at least four hours every day, Sundays excepted, for the
space of three days, if three days shall be necessary; and if
at the expiration of the said three first days, the said books
shall not nave, for the said road, the full number subscrib-
ed, the said commissioners may adjourn from time to time
until the number of shares shall be respectively subscrib-
ed; of which adjournment public notice shall be given
in the papers aforesaid. And when the said subscriptions
