14. AND BE IT ENACTED, That if the govern-
ment of the United States do not accept and provide for
the whole of the force hereby proposed to be raised, but
will agree to accept and provide for a smaller force; in
that case there shall be raised such force us said govern-
ment will accept and provide for, and instead of the offi-
cers herein intended to be appointed, only such and
so many shall be appointed as the governor and council
shall deem suitable to such force.

CHAPTER 115.
An act for the relief of the persona therein mentioned
of Anne Arundel county.
Sec. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the levy court of Anne Arundel
county be, and they are hereby authorised and empow-
ered (so long as they shall see fit so to do) to assess and
levy at their levy court annually, on the assessable pro-
perty of said county, a sum of money not exceeding six-
ty dollars, for the maintenance of Richard Allen, and
Cassander his wife; thirty dollars for Elizabeth Bryan,
and her infant children ;" thirty dollars for Singleton
Warfield; and thirty dollars for Sarah Carman, to
be collected as other county charges are, and by the col-
lector paid over to the persons respectively entitled to
receive the same.

CHAPTER 116.
An act to authorise the lottery therein mentioned.
Sec. 1. BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the Mayor and city council of Baltimore be,
and they are hereby authorised and empowered to propose
and adopt a lottery in one or more classes for the purpose
of raising a sum not exceeding thirty thousand dollars,
for the purpose of procuring a lot of ground and suita-
ble buildings, to be called a house of industry, for em-
ploying in some useful manner the poor of said city or
precincts, and affording them relief by such employment;
and to adopt such rules and regulations for the admis-
sion of the poor therein, for their employment and sup-
port whilst there, and for the general direction and gov-
ernment of said house as shall be from time to time found
necessary and proper.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said mayor
and city council shall take a bond or bonds in such
amount and with such security as they may approve, from
the managers of said lottery before the sale of any tickets
therein, conditioned for the payment of all prizes that
may be drawn in the same according to the scheme or
terms thereof, and for the payment over to the said mayor
and city council of the money to be raised thereby.
