of Maryland, That the eastern precincts commissioners,
holding their authority under the act to which this is a
supplement, be and they are hereby authorised and em-
powered, upon application in writing to them made by
any eight or more of the inhabitants of the said precincts
who will be benefitted thereby, to cause new wells to be
sunk and pumps to be erected, and to have repaired any old
wells or pumps that now are or hereafter may be in any
of the public streets, lanes or alleys within the said pre-
cincts, and the said commissioners are hereby authoris-
ed to levy the whole amount of the expenses incurred by
making such improvements in just proportions on the
houses and lots within the said precincts, which in their
opinion are benefitted by such improvements.

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the du-
ty of the commissioners carefully to examine all lots of
ground, cellars and other possessions and all public streets,
lanes and alleys within the said precincts and whenever the
said commissioners shall find any possessions as aforesaid,
in a state of nuisance, and the health of the citizens thereby
endangered they shall give at least ten days notice to the own-
er or owners, occupier or occupiers of the property in which
the nuisanse shall be to have the same removal, and in
case of refusal or neglect to remove the said nuisance in
the time specified in said notice, the said commissioners
shall have; the same removed at the cost and charges of
of the said owner or owners.

S. AND BE IT ENACTED, That if any person or
persons shall cast or discharge thereon or cause the same to
be done or shall cause to flow into any of the public streets,
lanes or alleys within the said precincts, or shall keep, col-
lect or permit to remain in his, her or their premises, any
foul Or nauseous liquor or offensive matter, to the annoy-
ance of the inhabitants, he, she or they so offending shall
forfeit and pay to the commissioners a sum not exceeding
twenty dollars for every such offence and the further sum
of five dollars for every day the same shall so remain.

4. AND BE IT ENACTED. That the said commis-
sioners or a majority of them are hereby authorised to ap-
pyint and license one or more superintendants of chimney
sweeps for said precincts; and no person shall exercise the
employment of superintendant of chimney sweeps unless
he shall have previously obtained from the said commissi-
sioners a license, and shall have given bond with satisfacto-
ry security, conditioned for the faithful performance of the
duties hereby enjoined upon him.

5. AND BE IT ENACTED, That each superin-
tendant is hereby directed to apply to the occupier or occu-
piers of every house or room within his district for per-
mission to sweep any chimney in such house or room
which has been used so as to require, in the opinion of the
superintendant, sweeping, and which has not been swept
any time within, the term of one month preceding the day
