that each acre of such land shall be wholly exempt from said tax

except where a dwelling house is already or shall hereafter be erec-
ted on such acre of land.
4. And be it enacted, That no personal property necessary for
the cultivation of any of the lands within said precincts, except so
fur as is necessary for house servants and for the cultivation of an
acre of land shall be liable to taxation for city purposes.
5. And be it enacted, That all acts or parts of acts that are in-
consistant with the provisions of this act, shall be, and are hereby
repealed.

Chapter 188.
An act for the relief of sundry poor persons in the several counties therein
mentioned.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the levy courts of Saint Marys's, Charles, Montgomery, Anne
Arundel, Prince George's, Worcester, Caroline, Kent, Calvert,
Queen Anne's, Washington, and Cecil counties, be, and they are
hereby severally authorised and empowered at their annual meeting,
so long as they shall see cause so to do, to assess and levy on the
assessable property of said counties (or the use of the several
persons hereinafter mentioned, any sum of money not exceeding
the several sums annexed to their respective names, viz. In Saint
Mary's county, for Ann Gray, thirty dollars; for Elizabeth Fan-
ning, and her afflicted daughter Mary, thirty dollars; for Eliza
Norris, thirty dollars; for John Copsey, thirty dollars; for Ann
Dorsey, thirty dollars; for Jeremiah Long, thirty dollars, payable
to themselves or their orders respectively; for Jane Evans and
Eliza Evans, infant children of Richard Evans, deceased, thirty
dollars, payable to such person or persons as the levy court may
think best calculated to take care of said children. In Charles
county, for Anna Connel, twenty-five dollars; for Anna Baker,
twenty-five dollars; for William Richardson, twenty dollars; for
Zepheniah Farran, twenty dollars; for Francis Cox, twenty dol-
lars; for Mary Barker, twenty dollars; for Jane Scott, twenty-five
dollars; for Susan Thomas, twenty-five dollars; for Jonathan Padgett
and Sarah his wife, thirty dollars; for Samuel Robey, and Eleanor
his wife, thirty dollars; for Catharine Nally, thirty dollars; for
Betsey Coward, twenty-five dollars; for George Davis, thirty dol-
lars, payable to themselves or their orders respectively. In Mont-
gomery county, for Elizabeth Barrett, thirty dollars; for Susanna
Murphy, twenty-five dollars; for John W. Barnes, twenty dollars;
for Francis Preston, forty eight dollars, payable to themselves or
their orders respectively, and for Elizabeth Gingle, thirty dollars;
to be paid to Lloyd Magruder or his order, to be applied to the
use and support of the said Elizabeth Gingle. For Anne Arun-
del county, for Ann Caton, twenty-five dollars; for Dolly Terry,
twenty-five dollars; for Elizabeth Wayson, for an orphan child,
twenty dollars; for Caleb Hobbs, twenty-five dollars; for Caleb
Stewart, twenty-five dollars; for Ann Smith, twenty-five dollars;
for Mary Westley, twenty-five dollars; for Elizabeth Howard,
twenty-five dollars, payable to William Shipley, for her use; for
Thomas Stockett, twenty-five dollars; for Lydia Tydings, twenty
