No. 41.
Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the commissioners of
the tax of the several counties in this state, be and they are hereby required to
make a true and correct return to the next general assembly of the number of
acres of land in their respective counties, the valuation thereof by the latest as-
sessment, & also the amount of personal property so assessed, distinct from the
real, and the commissioners of the tax for the city of Baltimore shall also make
correct returns of the amount of real and personal property assessed in said
city.
No. 42.
Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore be, and he is hereby au-
thorised and directed to pay to Richard G. Belt, or to his or order, the sum of
eighty-nine dollars, out of any unappropriated money in the treasury.
No. 43.
Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to John Brewer, Wm.
Kilty, and William P. Johns, each, the sum of fifty dollars, as a compensation
for their extraordinary services during the present session.
No. 44.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the treasurers of the
eastern and western shores respectively, be, and they are hereby authorised and
required in settling the accounts of the states agents, to allow them the legal
commission on all money due the state, on the 21st February 1822, the time of
the passage of the act of 1821, chapter 190, and collected by their exertions
and attention although such money may have been paid into the treasury by the
debtors instead of passing through the hands of the said agent; Provided, the
said treasurers shall have sufficient and satisfactory evidence that such money
was paid into the treasury, in consequence of the exertions and attention of said
agents.

No. 45.
Resolved, That the executive of this state be requested to ascertain the ex-
penses of the commissioners appointed in pursuance of a resolution of last ses-
sion No. 33, to survey, locate and lay out the route of a canal from the city of
Baltimore to the Potomac river, and the treasurer of the western shore is hereby
directed to liquidate the same,
No. 46.
Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Thomas S. Alex-
ander, or order, the sum of twenty five dollars for his services as reading clerk
to the senate.
No. 47.
Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Joshua Cockey, Jr.
the sum of fifty dollars as an additional compensation for his faithful and labor-
ous services as engrossing clerk.
No. 48.
Resolved, That the treasurer of the western shore, pay to each member of
the legislature, with the clerks and other officers, (except the committee clerks
called in to expedite the business of the session,) such per diem as they may
be entitled to, since the closing up the journal of accounts, up to the 27th of
February inclusive, and that the committee of claims furnish the said treasurer
with a list of members, clerks and other officers, entitled to receive the same.
No. 49.
Resolved, That the. governor and council be, and they are hereby
authorised and required to ascertain whether a lot of ground can be purchased
for the state in the city of Baltimore, near the water, sufficiently large for the
erection of a tobacco inspection house, the price of said lot and the cost of
building a fire proof ware-house on said lot to hold eight thousand hogsheads,
and report the result to the legislature at their next session.
No. 50.
Whereas, it is a matter of great importance to the people of this state, that
the decision of the court of appeals should be reported, in order that those rules
and legal obligations, to which the citizen is bound may be known and under-
stood by him; and the publishers of the Maryland reports having been detered
from a further prosecution of their work by the expenses of the publication
and the limited sale of the same. And whereas, the court of appeals have of
late years induced their opinions to writing thereby rendering clear of all doubt
and ambiguity, those principles which regulate and protect the lives, liberty and
property of the people, and it being ascertained that the said decisions cannot
be reported and published by individuals without the aid of the legislature--
therefore,
Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the governor and
council, be and they are hereby authorised and required to contract with any
