and to correct the same so as to make the same as nearly equal as
possible.
8. And be it enacted, That the levy court are hereby directed to
provide for the payment of such additional expenses as may be
yearly incurred by the provisions of this supplement.

9. And be it enacted, That in case of the death, resignation or dis-
qualification of any of the assessors appointed by virtue of this act
the respective boards of commissioners of the tax, shall be and are
hereby authorised to fill such vacancy or vacancies.

10. And be it enacted, That anything contained in any former act
or acts on this subject, repugnant to or inconsistent with the provi-
sions of this supplement, shall be and is hereby repealed.

CHAPTER. 151.

An act for the relief of William A. Speck, of the city of Baltimore.
WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly by the petition
of William A. Speck, of the city of Baltimore, that no allowance was
made to him for damage sustained by the opening of Pratt street,
owing to his being a minor and his interest not being represented be-
fore the commissioners; therefore,

Preamble.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful fur the mayor and city council of Balti-
more to appoint commissioners to inquire into the situation of the pro-
perty owned by the said William A. Speck, and if it shall appear
that the said William A. Speck was allowed no damage for the open-
ing of Pratt street, that the said commissioners shall have power to
make the proper allowance to the said William A. Speck, which shall
be apportioned and collected in the same manner as other damages
were under the original law for the opening of said street.

2. And be it enacted, That any allowance thus made shall be sub-
ject to the claim or claims of the lawful owners of the said property.
3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may he lawful for the may-
or and city council as aforesaid to pass such ordinance or ordinances
as they may deem necessary to carry into effect the intent and design
of this law.

CHAPTER 152.

A supplement to the act, entitled, An act authorising Henry Vernon
Somerville to remove certain negroes into the state of Maryland.
WHEREAS, Henry Vernon Somerville of Baltimore county is au-
thorised to remove certain negroes into this state, by the act to which
this is a supplement, and whereas, several children of the said ne-
groes, were not included in the said act, therefore,

15, 1823.

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That any of
the children of the aforesaid negroes, born either before or after the
removal of their parents from this state, may be removed into the
same, upon the same terms and conditions as the parents of the said
children are authorised to be removed, by the act to which this is a
supplement.

CHAPTER 153.

An act to pay the civil list and other expenses of civil government.
WHEREAS, those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour to
the public, ought to receive a reasonable compensation for their ser-
vices, therefore,
