CHAPTER 3.

An act entitled, An act, for the support of Thomas Deford of Queen-
Anne's county, an afflicted son of Edward Deford of said county.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the justi-
ces of the levy court of Queen Anne's county, be and they are hereby
authorised and empowered at their levy court annually, so long as they
shall see cause, to assess and levy on the assessable property of said
county, the sum of twenty five dollars, for the support and mainten-
ance of the said Thomas Deford, and that the same be collected an-
nually by the collector of Queen-Anne's county, and paid over for
the use and benefit of the said Thomas Deford, to such person as the
levy court may see proper to appoint.

Preamble.

CHAPTER 4.

An act to provide for the election of a vestry to St. John's Church, in
Queen Caroline Parish, in Anne-Arundel County.
WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assembly, by the pe-
tition of a number of persons, members of the Protestant Episcopal
Church, that they have, at their own expense, erected a comfortable
church, called St. John's Church, situated in the upper end of Queen
Caroline parish, in Anne Arundel county, and have prayed that a law-
may pass, authorising an election of a vestry to said church, and the
prayer of said petitioners appearing reasonable, Therefore,

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
George Howard, Charles W. Dorsey and Jacob Hollingsworth, or
the survivor or survivors of them, shall cause twenty days previous
notice to be served on the subscribers to said St. John's church, to
meet together in said church, for the purpose of electing a vestry to
the same; and the said subscribers professing themselves members of
the said church, or so many of them as shall then and there assemble
and meet together, shall elect by ballot, by a majority of votes, eight
vestrymen from the members of said church, who shall be deemed
and considered the vestry of said church, until the election of a new
vestry to said church shall be made in the year eighteen hundred and
twenty-four.

Sec. 2. And he it enacted, That after the first election of a ves-
try to said Church, a new vestry shall be annually, after Easter Mon-
day in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-three, elected therefor,
by the free white citizens, twenty-one years of age, professing them-
selves members of said Church and holding a pew or half a pew
there in; which said elections shall be made at the times, and in the
manner that the elections of the vestries of other Protestant Episcopal
Churches in this state are made.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, 1 hat the vestry to be elected to the said
St. John's Church, shall have and enjoy every right, power, privilege
and indulgence that is given or granted to, or enjoyed by other ves-
tries of the Protestant Episcopal Churches within this state,
