CHAPTER. 52.

An additional supplement to the act entitled, An art for the relief of the
poor in the counties of Dorchester and Somerset.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the office of the present trustees of the poor for Somerset
county, shall cease, and be at an end on the first Monday of July
next, and that the appointment of trustees of the poor of said
county, from and after the first Monday in April next, be vested in
the levy court of said county.

2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of Somerset county,
shall be, and they are hereby authorised and required, at their meet-
ing in April next, and at their first meeting in the month of April
in each succeeding year thereafter, to appoint seven discreet and pro-
per persons qualified agreeable to the provisions of the original act,
to which this is a supplement, and of this act, to be trustees for the
poor of said county, Provided nevertheless, That nothing herein con-
tained shall prevent the said levy court from reappointing any of
the existing trustees, if they, in their discretion shall deem, it advi-
sable and proper so to do.

3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the clerk of said
levy court, within five days after such appointment, and within the
like time after any future appointments to be made in virtue of this
act, to make out and deliver to the sheriff of said county, a certi-
ficate of the appointment of each of the said trustees, so appointed
or to be appointed, endorsing one of the said certificates for each of
them respectively; which said sheriff shall, within six days thereafter,
deliver one thereof to each of the said trustees respectively; and it
shall thereupon be the duty of the several trustees so appointed, and
notified of such appointment, and who shall accept thereof, under
the penalty imposed by the said original act, upon any person ap-
pointed a trustee for the poor in virtue of the said act, for wilfully
refusing or delaying to take upon him the duties of the said office, to
meet on the first Tuesday of July next ensuing such appointment,
and on the first Tuesday in May in every year thereafter, except
prevented by sickness, or other unavoidable accident; and in such
case, as soon thereafter as the disability shall be removed, at the poor
house of the said county, and qualify in the manner prescribed by
the original act, to which this is a supplementary act, and thence-
forward to proceed in the execution of the duties of said office.

4 And be it enacted, That the existing trustees shall meet at the
aforesaid poor house on the first Tuesday of July next, and deliver
over to their successors, to be taken under their care and manage-
ment all books and papers, and a schedule of all and singular the pro-
perty belonging to the aforesaid poor house under the penalty of forty
dollars; each to be recovered and applied as other fines and forfeitures,
are directed to be recovered and applied, in the aforesaid original
act to which this is a supplementary act.

5. And be it enacted, That the trustees for the poor to be appoints
ed in virtue of this act, and their successors in that capacity, hereby
constituted the trustees for the poor of Somerset county, shall res-
pectively forever have, hold, use, exercise and enjoy, all the powers
authorities, rights, property, liberties, privileges and immunities,
which have hitherto been possessed, enjoyed, and used; and shall be
