RESOLUTIONS.

of the probable cost of the said canal, and all other information relative to the
same, which they deem important to be communicated.
Further resolved. That the commissioners appointed by virtue of these re-
solutions, shall be entitled to the sum of four dollars for every day they may be
engaged in the above undertaking; and that the governor and council, be autho-
rised to pay to the engineer to be employed by them, such compensation for his
services as they may deem reasonable, and also to make such advances for
the necessary expenses attending the execution of this commission as they may
think proper to be allowed.

administra-
tion of justice,
how to be dis-
posed of.

No. 54.
Resolved, That the report of the select committee upon the administration of
justice, and the returns of the several county clerks to the legislature, in pursu-
ance of the call of that committee, be referred to the judges of the court of ap-
peals at their next session, and that their attention be invited to the subject of
said report, with a request that they take the same, with the documents ac-
companying, into their consideration, and make a report thereon to the next ge-
neral assembly, including in their report a bill setting forth the principles sug-
gested in the said report with such other amendments, alterations or additions
as in their judgment shall be most conducive to facilitate the administration of
justice throughout this stale.
Further resolved, That this report and resolutions, with the documents ac-
companying, be deposited in the council chamber, with directions to the cleric
of the council to deliver the same to the judges of the court of appeals at their
next meeting.

No. 35.
Resolved, That the executive be, and they are hereby authorised to contract
upon the best terms tor the printing of the tows and vote's and proceedings of the
present session of the legislature, in the same manner they have heretofore
been printed, and that they require of the person with whom they may contract,
the same obligations tor the faithful performance of the duty, which have been
usually required of the printer to the state, and the sum to be allowed shall not
exceed fourteen hundred dollars.

Relief of.

No. 36.
Whereas,, It is represented to the general assembly of Maryland, by the pe-
tition of Richard Moffitt, late sheriff of Queen Ann's county, that the said state
has obtained a judgment against him in Queen Ann's county court, for the sum
of one hundred and forty-six dollars, with six per cent interest and cost, and he
prays to be released from the payment of nine per cent, per annum; of the fif-
teen per cent, per annum, with which he may be chargeable; Therefore,
Resolved, That Richard Moffitt, late sheriff of Queen Ann's county, be, and
he is hereby released from the payment of nine per cent, per annum, of the fif-
teen per cent, per annum, which is chargeable; Provided, he shall pay off the
said judgment with six per cent, per annum, and all cost on or before the first
day of April next.

No. 37.
Resolved, That all proceedings at the suit of the state, against the estate of
Benjamin Harris, formerly sheriff of Calvert county, lately deceased, and against
his securities, be, and they are hereby suspended until the next meeting of the
legislature.
No. 38.
Resolved, That all proceedings on the part of the state, against Benjamin
Gaither, late sheriff of Anne Arundel county, and his securities, be, and the
same, are hereby suspended until the first day of November, 1824; Provided,
the said Benjamin Gaither, shall, on or before the first day of November next,
pay the amount of the judgment obtained against him, with six per cent, inter-
est and all costs, and the remainder of the debt due to the state, on or before the
first day of November, 1824, with interest as aforesaid; Provided, That if the
first payment of the debt due to the state is not punctually made at the time

No. 39.
Resolved, That all proceedings on the part of this state, against William Go-
ver, security of Basil Bowing, formerly sheriff of Prince George's county, be,
and the same are hereby suspended until the first day of March, eighteen hun-
dred and twenty-five; Provided, the said William Gover, shall pay one half
of the debts due to the state, from Basil Bowling and William Clover, aforesaid,
with six per cent, interest, and all the costs, on or before the first day of March,
eighteen hundred and twenty-four, and the remaining half of said debt with in-
terest, and any additional costs that may accrue, on or before first day of March,
eighteen hundred and twenty-five; Provided, nothing herein contained shall
be construed to release the right of the state to any property, real or personal,
which has been already taken in execution, or the property of any of the persons
aforesaid, and if the first payment is not punctually made on or before the time
specified, this resolution shad then be considered null and void.
