Commission-
ers to lay out.

mery county, would greatly promote useful intercourse between the
said town and the surrounding country; therefore,
Section. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That William Wilson. Arnold T. Windson and James C. Lackland,
be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to survey and lay
out and extend the said Washington street in the said town, until it
shall intersect the present road at or near William Malin's brick-kiln,
and the levy court of said county sh?ll in addition to the sum now
required to be collected, levy for the said purpose a sufficient sum of
money, and hereafter keep that part of said street extended under

this act, in repair as a public road; Provided, that said street shall not
be extended under this act, unless the proprietor or proprietors of the
land over which it will pass, consents or consent to receive no com-
pensation for such land.

Adjacent land

town.

2. And be it enacted. That whenever any proprietor or proprietors
of land adjacent to the said town of Rockville, shall agree that the
said land may be made part of the said town, it shall and may be
lawful for such person or persons to apply to the levy court of Mont-
gomery county aforesaid, whose duty it shall be to appoint five com-
missioners, a majority of whom may act, to lay out, mark and survey
the necessary streets, lanes and alleys, which shall forever be kept
open in the said land so to be added to said town, and they shall un-
der their hands return a fair plat thereof to the office of the clerk of
said county, there to be recorded among the land records of said
county.

Expenses.

3. And be it enacted, That all the expenses attending the location
of said land, and adding it to the said town of Rockville, and all in-
cidental expenses growing out of the same, shall be chargeable to
and paid by the person or persons who shall propose to make such
addition, and at any time that such addition shall be made, the com-
missioners appointed as aforesaid or a majority of them, shall after
having laid out the streets, lanes and alleys, proceed to name said
streets, lanes and alleys, and to number the lots included in said ad-
dition, beginning for the same at the number of a lot which shall then
be in said town, and by such numbers shall the said lots forever there-
after be known an designated.

Compensa-
tion.

4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners appointed by this act
or to be appointed in virtue thereof, shall each receive the sum of
two dollars for each and every day they shall be engaged in the du-
ties imposed by this act, and they shall return under their hands a
fair copy of all their proceedings to be recorded in the office of the
clerk of Montgomery county aforesaid.

Preamble.

CHAPTER 207.

A supplement to an act, entitled, An act relating to the Maryland Pen-
itentiary.
WHEREAS, the act to which this is a supplement, 'authorised and
empowered the treasurer of the western shore of Maryland to cause
to be constituted certificates of stock for the sum of twenty eight
thousand dollars, bearing an interest of five per cent per annum,
and vested in the treasurer a discretionary power to require such pre-
mium as he might deem reasonable before taking any subscription
for the said stock and this discretionary power having defeated the
object of the law; therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the treasurer of the western shore, be, and he is hereby authorised
