county, immediately after the passage of this act, or as soon there-
after as may be practicable, and proceed agreeably to the provi-
sions of an act passed at November session eighteen hundred and
twelve, entitled, An act for the valuation of real and personal pro-
perty in the several counties of this state, to re-value and re-assess
the real and personal property within said county.

Commission-
ers named.

2. And be it enacted, That Frederick Wilson, Nicholas
Smith, Benjamin Merritt, William Perkins and William B. Wil-
mer, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners of the tax
for said county; and the commissioners are hereby authorised and
empowered to carry into full effect and operation all the provisions
of this, and the act of eighteen hundred and twelve, entitled, An
act for the valuation of real and personal property in the several
counties of this state.

Guardians &c.
liable for tax.

3. And be it unacted, That if any executor, administrator,
guardian or trustee, shall hereafter fail to inform the commission-
ers of the tax of the transfer of any property belonging to any de-
ceased person, ward or estate in trust, of which he or she may be
executor, administrator, guardian or trustee, the said executor, ad-
ministrator, guardian or trustee shall be liable for the tax on the
same, until the commissions of the tax shall be properly notified of
such transfer.

CHAPTER 147.

An act to incorporate the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons
of Maryland.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted By the General Assembly of Maryland,
That William H. Winder, Grand Master, Benjamin C. Howard, De-
puty Grand Master, William Steuart, Senior Grand Warden, Wil-
liam P. Farquhar, Junior Grand Warden, John D. Readel, Grand Se-
cretary, Edward G. Woodyear, Grand Treasurer, and the other grand
officers and members of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted
ancient York Masons of Maryland, and their successors, be, and
they are hereby declared to be a community, corporation and body
politic forever, by the name, style and title of The Grand Lodge of
Free and Accepted Masons of Maryland; and by that name they
and their successors shall and may have perpetual succession, and
shall and may at all times hereafter be capable in law to have, pur-
chase, receive, possess, enjoy and retain to them and their succes-
sors, lands, tenements, rents, annuities, bank and other stocks, pen-
sions and other hereditaments, in fee simple or for terms of years,
life, lives or otherwise, and also goods, chattels or effects of what
nature, quality or kind soever, by the gift, bargain, sale, devise or
bequest, of any person or persons, bodies corporate or politic, ca-
pable of making the same; and the same at their pleasure to grant,
alien, lease, transfer or dispose of in such manner as they may
judge most conducive to the benevolent and charitable purposes of

Proviso.

the said fraternity; Provided always, That the said corporation or
body politic shall not at any time hold or possess property, real,
personal or mixed, exceeding in annual value the sum of twenty
thousand dollars.

May sue, &c.

2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation and their
successors, by the name, style and title aforesaid, shall be forever
thereafter capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
