CHAP. 120.

lected, the costs incurred by the county in which such recogni-
zance may have been taken, and the same to pay over to the
clerks of the respective counties, to be by them accounted for to
the levy courts annually.

Clerk to state
costs to treasurer.

2. And be it enacted, That the clerk of each and every county
shall state such costs in the return by him made to the treasurer
of the western or eastern shore, as the case may be.

Governor and

council to appoint
two managers, &c.

CHAP. CXXI.

A Supplement to the act, entitled. An Act for the benefit of the University of
Maryland, passed at December Session eighteen hundred and sixteen, chap-
ter seventy eight.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
governor and council are hereby authorised and required, to ap-
point every year, two managers on the part of the state for the
management of the lottery or lotteries granted In virtue of the
act to which this is a supplement, whose duty it shall be to in-
spect the management of said lottery or lotteries, and the manner
in which the proceeds of the same may be appropriated.

Sum authorised to
be raised.

2. And be it enacted, That the managers of the said lottery or
lotteries be and they are hereby authorised, to raise the sum of
money allowed by the act to which this is a supplement, by as
many schemes, not exceeding ten, as they shall deem most expe-
dient for that purpose, any thing in any act of assembly contain-
ed to the contrary thereof notwithstanding.

Schemes released
from five per cent
tax.

Proviso.

3. And be it enacted, That the said schemes be and they are
hereby released and relieved from the payment of the tax of five
per cent, imposed by the act to regulate lotteries; Provided al-
ways, that the said managers shall, before they proceed to draw
either of the said schemes pay to the treasurer of the western
shore a sum of money, hearing such proportion to the sum of thir-
ty-six hundred dollars, as the amount designed to be raised upon
the said scheme shall hear to the sum of one hundred thousand
dollars, to be applied in the payment of the salary of the lottery
commissioners.

Acts repealed.

4. And be it enacted, That the act of assembly passed at De-
cember session eighteen hundred and nineteen, chapter one hun-
dred and five, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled, An act
for the benefit of the University of Maryland, for which this act
is intended as a substitute, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Managers not to
be entitled to
compensation.

5. Be it enacted, That the managers appointed by the go-
vernor and council in virtue of this act, shall not be entitled to
any compensation for their services.

Preamble.

CHAP. CXXII.

A Supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the relief of John King, and cer-
tain other Securities of William S. Handy, late Collector of Somerset Coun-

ty.
WHEREAS the aforesaid act, to which this act is a supplement, has

passed this general assembly at the present session, authorising
and requiring certain persons therein mentioned, to release to
certain securities of William S. Handy a part of a sum of mo-
ney for which the trustees of the poor of Somerset county have
brought suit against the said securities, and to appropriate and
apply the balance due on said suit in the manner therein provided:
