1820.

per centum in addition to the per centum provided for in the
scheme of said lottery; that by an art passed at the same session
chapter two hundred and ten, the managers of the said lottery
were compelled, in order to entitle themselves to draw the said
lottery, to give bond to the state of Maryland, conditioned for the
payment of five per cent, on the amount of prizes in the said lot-
tery, the said per centum amounting to fifteen thousand dollars;
that the obligors in this bond were the. petitioners, to wit: Mat-
thew M'Laughlin, Thomas Sheppard and Nicholas Stansbury; it
is further set forth, that in consequence of the various restrictions
imposed by these several acts of assembly, upon the original pow-
ers granted to the said managers, and after the said powers had
been too far carried into action to be suspended without most ma-
nifest loss and injustice to third persons, the said lottery was ren-
dered wholly unproductive, returning no greater gain after its com-
pletion than one hundred and eleven dollars and twenty-five cents
and leaving the said petitioners in debt upon their bond aforesaid,
to the full original amount of fifteen thousand dollars; and the
said petitioners, having prayed relief from this general assembly,
and their prayer appearing reasonable, Therefore,

CHAP. 55.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
said Matthew M'Laughlin, Thomas Sheppard and Nicholas Stans-
bury, their heirs, executors and administrators, be released from
any obligation to the state of Maryland, by virtue of any bond
given by them in compliance with an act of assembly passed at
December session eighteen hundred and seventeen, chapter two
hundred and ten, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled, An
act to regulate lotteries, and that the said bond be, and the same
is hereby declared to be null and void, to all intents and purposes
whatsoever.

Bond made void.

CHAP. LVI.
A Further Supplement to the Act for the Opening and Extending North-street
in the City of Baltimore.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the pe-
tition of a number of respectable citizens of Baltimore, that the
laws formerly passed upon this subject are found defective, and if
carried into effect would be inadequate to remedy the evils com-
plained of, Therefore,

Passed Jan. 15, 1821.

Preamble.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the commissioners for the, opening and extending streets in the
city of Baltimore, be and they are hereby empowered and direct-
ed, to open and extend North-street on the east side of Jones's
Falls, from the point of its intersection with High-street, fifty
feet in width, including the foot pavement, measuring from the
west side of Hume's warehouse, and running through the width
of fifty feet until the eastern boundary line of said street so ex-
tended intersects Jones's-street, at the south west corner of Gil-
bert Middleton's dwelling house, and thence in a straight direc-
tion fifty feet wide to the falls; and the said street, when so open-
ed and extended, and when the valuation and assessment herein
after directed to be made shall have taken place, shall be deemed
and taken, and is hereby declared to be public street and highway
for ever thereafter; and the said city commissioners are hereby
