tate for above seven years, and which have been or shall hereaf-
ter be acknowledged before the chief judge, or an associate judge
of any judicial district within this state, shall notwithstanding the
same have been or shall hereafter be acknowledged neither in the
judicial district where the lands lie, nor where the grantors, bar-
gainors; or donors reside, have the same effect ami validity as if
such deeds had been acknowledged before the chief judge, or an
associate judge of the judicial district where the lands lie, or the

grantors, bargainers, or donors reside; Provided, that in every
other respect the said deeds have been and shall hereafter be ex-
ecuted, acknowledged and recorded, agreeably to the laws here-
tofore made on this subject.

CHAP. CLXXIII.
An Act to incorporate a Company to erect a Bridge over the Patuxent River.
WHEREAS the convenience and interest of the public would be
greatly promoted by erecting a bridge over the Patuxent river,
at or near a place called the Green Landing; Therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it
shall be lawful to open books at the town of Upper Marlborough,
under the direction of William Mill, John R. Magruder and Da-
vid Crawford, or any two of them; at Queen-Anne, under the
direction of Francis M. Hall, William Wootton and John Con-
tee, or any two of them; at Bladensburgh, under the direction of
George Calvert, Joseph Kent and Dudley Diggs, or any two of
them; at Nottingham, under the direction of Philemon Chew, Jr.
Robert W. Bowie and John R. Magruder, Jr. or any two of
them; at Pig Point, under the direction of Rezin Estep, Richard
G. Hutton and Joseph M'Ceney, or any two of them; for receiv-
ing and entering subscriptions to the amount of six thousand dol-
lars, for the purpose of erecting a toll bridge over the Patuxent
river, which sum shall be divided into three hundred shares of
twenty dollars each; every person at the time of subscribing shall
pay to some one of the commissioners two dollars upon each
share subscribed, and the said commissioners shall pay over what
they have respectively received to the president and directors
hereinafter mentioned, so soon as they may be appointed.

When and where
to be opened, &c.
|
2. And be it enacted, That, the books aforesaid shall he opened
in the places aforesaid on the first Monday of April next, or at
such other time as the said commissioners may deem best, at such
particular houses in said places as the commissioners aforesaid,
in the places aforesaid, may appoint by public notice, which
books shall be continued open for three successive, days, and then
be closed; and as soon as the books shall be closed in the respec-
tive places aforesaid, the several commissioners shall immediately
send into the commissioners aforesaid for the town of Upper
Marlborough, the amount subscribed for at the respective places
aforesaid, with a list of the subscribers; and if it shall appear
that three thousand dollars, or one hundred and fifty shares shall
have been subscribed for, or whenever that amount and number
of shares shall be subscribed for, the subscribers and stock-
holders, and those who may hereafter subscribe, shall be and are
hereby made a body politic and corporate, by the name and style
of The Patuxent Bridge Company, and as such may sue and be
