the Falls of the Ohio, adopted to the present and
future wants of commerce, would cost very little
more than the repair and enlargement of the pre-
sent work, which if repaired, would present but
one passage around the Falls; and that from the
unfavorable location, never could be as useful, for
passing the largest class of boats, as a new work
constructed with the advantages of the present
experience in navigation.
Resolved, That the Senators and Members of
Congress, from this State, be and they are hereby
earnestly requested to use their best exertions for
the passage of a law, authorising and aiding the
construction of a new canal on the Indiana side
of the river, and to prevent the interruption of
the commerce of the river, through the Louisville
and Portland Canal, until some other mode is pro-
vided, for the passage of boats around the Falls.
Resolved, That the Governor, be and he is here-
by requested to furnish a copy of these resolutions
to each of our Senators and Representatives in
Congress.

Resolution, requiring the State Wharfinger, to ,
allot two hundred feet frontage, of the State
wharf, opposite State Tobacco Warehouse, No.
Two, to Mason L. Weems and others.
WHEREAS, Mason L. Weems, Theodore Weems,
George W. Weems and Gustavus Weems, have
shown to this General Assembly, that the front-
age heretofore allotted to the line of steamboats
owned and commanded by them, on the State
wharf, opposite the Tobacco Warehouse, No.
Two, in the city of Baltimore, is insufficient for
the proper shipment and delivery of the pas-
sengers and freight carried by them, between
the Patuxent river and the said city, consisting
in great part of tobacco, for the use and accom-
