CHAPTER 50.

AN ACT to authorise the County Commissioners
of Baltimore county, to levy on the assessable
property of said county, a sufficient amount of
money, to increase the wages of laborers on the
public roads of said county, above the amount
now allowed by law.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the County Commissioners
of Baltimore county, he and they are hereby au-
thorised to levy on the assessable property of said
county, such a sum of money as may be necessary
to pay the laborers on the public roads in said
county, such rate or rates of wages as they may
deem proper, not exceeding one dollar per diem.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said County
Commissioners of Baltimore county, are hereby
authorised to levy on the assessable property of
said county, such a sum of money as may be ne-
cessary to pay the laborers, who have worked upon
the public roads of said county, during the year
eighteen hundred and fifty-seven, such rate or
rates of wages as they may deem proper, not ex-
ceeding one dollar per diem.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect front the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 51.

AN ACT amendatory of an act entitled, an act
to incorporate the Pickell Mining Company,
passed at January session, eighteen hundred
and fifty-three, chapter 407, and to change the
name of the said company to the Piedmont Coal
and Iron Company.
