CHAPTER 41 .

Passed Febru-
ary 12, 1858.

A SUPPLEMENT TO THE ACT entitled an
act to incorporate the Trustees of the Sheppard
Asylum, passed the twenty-fourth day of May,
eighteen hundred and fifty-three.

Exempted from
taxation.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That all estate and estates, and
property, real, personal and mixed, of every na-
ture and kind whatsoever, which has heretofore
been, or which may hereafter be given, devised,
or bequeathed to the Sheppard Asylum, or to
the Trustees of the Sheppard Asylum, for the use
and benefit of said Asylum, shall be, and the
same, and every part thereof, are hereby entirely
released, discharged, and forever exempt from the
tax or duty imposed by the act of the General
Assembly of Maryland, passed at December ses-
sion, eighteen hundred and forty-four, chapter
237, entitled, an act imposing a tax on collateral
inheritances, distributive shares and legacies, to
aid in paying the debts of the State, or of any
supplemental act to the said last mentioned act
of Assembly; and that no part of such estate, or
estates or property aforesaid, shall, in any man-
ner, be liable for the payment of said tax or duty,
or any part thereof, as aforesaid.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
be in force, and take effect from the day of its
passage.

CHAPTER 42.

Passed Febru-
ary 1, 1858.

AN ACT appropriating a sum of money to Wil-
liam A. Spencer, clerk of the Court of Appeals
of Maryland, for fees due him.

Treasurer au-
thorised to pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Treasurer, upon the
warrant of the Comptroller, is hereby authorised
