LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Duty of build-
ing committee.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That Josias Hawkins,
George P. Jenkins and Edmund Perry, be and
they are hereby constituted and appointed a build-
ing committee, whose duty it shall be to procure
by purchase, or otherwise, a suitable site upon
which to erect said jail, and to determine upon the
plan of the same; and it shall be their further
duty to issue proposals for the erection thereof,
giving at least twenty days notice by advertise-
ment in one or more papers, and at three of the
most public places in said county, and the con-
tract for building said jail shall be awarded to the
lowest responsible bidder, who shall be required to
enter into bond with good and sufficient security
for the faithful performance of his contract, to be
approved by the said building committee.

Money to be
paid over.

DEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said sum or
sums when so levied and collected, together with
the several sums now in the hands of the County
Commissioners of said county, shall be paid over
to the building committee named in this act to
superintend the erection of said jail, and shall be
by them faithfully applied and expended in the
erection thereof.

Sheriff to be
notified.

SEC. 4. And be if. enacted, That the said build-
ing committee shall upon the completion of said
jail notify the sheriff of said county thereof, whose
duty it shall be to remove to said jail all prisoners
who may be in his custody at the time of notifica-
tion, and confine them there; and the sheriff shall
not be required to pay to the county any sum for
rent of said jail.

Compensation
of the Building
Committee.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the County
Commissioners are hereby authorised to levy upon
the assessable property of said county a sum suf-
ficient to pay the said building committee a rea-
sonable compensation for their services, not exceed-
ing two dollars per day.

In force.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after its passage.
