SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said stamp,
when used upon licenses issued by the Comptrol-
ler, shall have the same force and effect as the
counter signature of the Comptroller heretofore
required by law.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That no license
shall be valid or recognised in law unless it shall
have been first stamped as herein provided for.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That if any person
shall counterfeit the said stamp, or unlawfully
use, or steal the same, or unlawfully, falsely and
corruptly, or with evil intent, affix it to any in-
strument of writing, or shall have in his or her
possession or custody, such counterfeit instrument,
and shall wilfully conceal the same, knowing it
to be falsely made or counterfeited, such person
or persons upon conviction shall be sentenced to
undergo a confinement in the Penitentiary for a
period of time not less than five, nor more than
ten years.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That so much of
chapter eighty-six, section second, of the act of
eighteen hundred and fifty-three, as requires li-
censes to be countersigned by the Comptroller, be
and the same is hereby repealed.

Repealed.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the first day of May, eighteen
hundred and fifty-eight.

CHAPTER 270.

In force.

AN ACT to authorise the Comptroller to settle
the accounts of James T. Blackistone, of Saint
Mary's county.

9, 1858.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Comptroller of the
Treasury be, and he is hereby authorised to settle
and adjust the accounts of James T. Blackistone,
Clerk of the Circuit Court of Saint Mary's coun-
ty, and to issue his warrant to the Treasurer for
