peace of Allegany county, that the stock which
is so proposed to be voted for by him, her or
them, is truly and bona fide his, her or their
stock, as the same stands on the books of the bank
or in the certificate therefor held by him, her or
them.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 207.

AN ACT for the relief of the sureties on the offi-
cial bonds of Philip J. Connell.

Released from
payment of in-
terest.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the sureties on the official
bonds of Philip J. Connell, late Collector of taxes
of the fourth election district of Montgomery
county, for the years eighteen hundred and fifty-
two and eighteen hundred and fifty-three, be and
they are hereby released from the payment of in-
terest which is due or which may have accrued ;

Proviso.

Provided, said sureties or the trustees of said Con-
nell, or any one else for them or him, shall pay
into the Treasury of the State the whole balance
of said direct tax placed in the hands of said Con-
nell for collection, which may be now due, over
and above the amounts legally allowed for insol-
vencies and erroneous assessments, in three equal
instalments before the first days of July, October
and January next.

Trustees au-
thorised to col-
lect.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of
said Philip J. Connell, late collector as aforesaid,
be and they are hereby authorised until the first day
of January next to collect all arrearages of taxes
which may be due the said collector, in the same
manner and with as full power as the said collec-
tor, or the said trustees could have had at any time
to enable the said trustees to complete the said col-
lection.

In force.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.
