AN ACT for the enforcement of the Police regu-
lations and ordinances of the Burgess and Com-
missioners of the town of Sharpsburg and Mil-
er'g addition, in Washington county.

ised to impose
fines.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That any justice of the peace
residing within the corporate limits of the town of
Sharpsburg and Miller's addition, Washington
county, is hereby authorised, empowered and re-
quired to take cognizance of all violations of the
ordinances of the corporate authorities of the said
town, and upon information, may cause all per-
sons so offending, to be brought before him for
trial, and if found guilty by the justice of the
peace, of the matter wherewith such person or per-
sons stand charged, the justice is hereby author-
ised to impose a fine for each offence, not exceed-
ing the sum of ten dollars, and in default of pay-
ment of such fine and costs of proceedings, to
commit the party or parties to the county jail for

a period of time not exceeding twenty days; Pro-
vided, however, that from any judgment of a jus-
tice of the peace, rendered under the provisions of
this act, either party shall have the right of ap-
peal to the Circuit Court for said county, under the
same laws and restrictions as regulate appeals
from other judgments of justices of the peace in
said county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That 'the corporation
of Sharpsburg and Miller's addition shall be lia-
ble for jail fees incurred under the provisions of
this act.

|
Repealed.
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the third section
of the act of eighteen, hundred and fifty-three,
chapter three hundred and forty-two, authorising
the Burgess of the town of Sharpsburg and Mil-
ler's addition, to take cognizance of all violations
of the ordinances of the said town be, and the
same is hereby repealed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the day of its passage.
