LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 120.

Passed March
4, 1858.

AN ACT for the preservation of the papers of
James J. Chew, deceased, former sheriff of
Prince George's county, so far as they relate to
his office as sheriff.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, at the time of his death, James J.
Chew, former sheriff of Prince George's county,
had in his possession, papers connected with his
office as sheriff of said county; And whereas,
said papers are of great interest and value to
the people of the county, and especially to such
of them to whose business and rights they have
relation; And whereas. owing to the fact of said
James J. Chew, having died without, being pos-
sessed of property, no letters of administration
have been granted on his estate, and inasmuch
as the papers alluded to are now in possession
of John Contee Mullikin, Esquire, who is de-
sirous to be relieved from their further custody,
and that the same may bo deposited in some
place of safety, where access may he had to
them by the public, in the same manner as
other official papers; Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the papers relating to the
office of sheriff of the late James J. Chew, now in
possession of John Contee Mullikin, Esquire, be
deposited in the office of the clerk of the Circuit
Court for Prince George's county, there to bo kept
in the same manner, and subject to the same rules
as are other papers there on deposit for safe keep-
ing, and for access thereto, by any one desiring
the same.

Receipt of the
Clerk a suffici-
ent release.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the receipt of
the clerk of Circuit Court for Prince George's
county, shall be a sufficient release from all fur-
ther liability for the safety of such papers, as the
aforesaid John Contee Mullikin shall deposit
with the clerk aforesaid.

In force.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from its passage.
