provided for, shall have full power to receive ad-
ditional subscriptions for the completion of said
road, and said president and managers shall cause
the said road to be laid out on the bed of the new
Greencastle road, from Hagerstown to the Penn-
sylvania line, making an artificial bed of stone,
not less than sixteen feet in breadth.

Power to widen
road.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the president
and managers of said company shall have full
power to widen the said road, wherever and when-
ever it shall be found necessary for the construc-
tion of the same.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That said company
shall cause said road to be completed within five
years from the passage of this act, otherwise the
right of said stockholders shall revert to the State
of Maryland.

Commissioners
authorised to
subscribe.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the Commis-
sioners of Washington county be and they are
hereby authorised to subscribe for such number of
shares, not exceeding one hundred and fifty, in the
capital stock of the company hereby incorporated,
that they may deem expedient ami proper to be
subscribed for in the name and for the benefit of
Washington county.

of toll.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That the said com-
pany shall have the power to erect upon said road
one toll-gate; Provided, said gate be not erected
within one mile of the town of Hagerstown, and
appoint a receiver of tolls, who shall have the
power to collect and receive of and from all and
every person and persons using said road the tolls
and rates hereinafter mentioned, and to stop any
person riding, leading or driving any horse,
horses, cattle, sheep or hogs, sulky, chaise, phae-
ton, coach, coachee, cart, wagon, sleigh, sled or
other carriage of pleasure or burthen from pass-
ing through said gate, until they have respec-
tively paid to the same: that is to say, the follow-
ing sums of money, and so in proportion for any
greater or lesser number, for every score of sheep,
five cents; for every score of hogs five cents; for
every score of cattle ten cents; for every horse and
his rider or led horse, three cents: viz, for every
sulky, chaise or cart with one horse five cents; for
every chariot, coach, stage, wagon, phaeton or
chaise, with two horses and four wheels ten cents;
