dred dollars, then it shall be the duty of said clerk
before granting said license to demand and receive
therefor the sum of twenty five dollars; and if it shall
appear from such statement that such rate of rent or
annual value of said house or place does or shall not
exceed two hundred and fifty dollars, then it shall be
the duty of said clerk, before granting such license to
demand and receive therefor the sum of forty dollars,
and if it shall appear that the rate of rent or annual
value of said house or place exceeds two hundred and
fifty dollars, and is not more than five hundred dol-
lars, then the sum of sixty dollars; and if more
than five hundred dollars and not more than one
thousand dollars, then the sum of one hundred dol-
lars; and if more than one thousand dollars, and not
more than two thousand dollars, then the sum of one
hundred and fifty dollars; and if more than two thou-
sand dollars and not more than five thousand dollars,
then the sum of two hundred dollars; and if more
than five thousand dollars and not more than ten thou-
sand dollars, then the sum of three hundred dollars;
and if more than ten thousand dollars then before
granting the license the said clerk in addition to said
three hundred dollars shall demand and receive from
said applicant a sum equal to five per cent, of such

excess; Provided, nevertheless, that in no case shall
said applicant be required to pay a sum greater than
five hundred dollars, and that nothing herein shall be
so construed as to exempt any room or part of a hotel
which may be rented for the purpose of retailing spir-
ituous liquors by the landlord or proprietor of such
hotel from the provisions of this act.

License shall
expire.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That all licences
granted under the provisions of this act shall expire
on the first day of May next ensuing the granting
thereof.

Fractional li-
censes.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That any person or
persons, body or bodies corporate commencing any
business, requiring a license under the provisions of
this act at any time of the year, shall be entitled to,
and may obtain a license or licenses from the clerk of
the circuit court of his county, or from the clerk of
the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore, as the case
may be, on paying therefor a rateable allowance.

Unexpired li-
censes.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all persons hav-
ing heretofore obtained a license from this State to
use and carry on any of the several branches of
business in this act mentioned, which license stall
