LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 344.

Passed March
10, 1856.

A SUPPLEMENT to an act entitled an act to con-
tinue the corporate existence of the several Bank-
ing Institutions therein mentioned, so far as re-
lates to the Easton Bank of Maryland.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, numerous citizens of Caroline county,
and especially the people of Greensborough, of
said county, have repeatedly petitioned the Presi-
dent and Directors of the Easton Bank of Mary-
land to arrange some plan by which banking fa-
cilities to a limited extent might be afforded to that
community, in the negotiation of sight and short
time drafts and acceptances, thus affording great
benefits to the merchants largely engaged in the
produce business, by enabling them to accommo-
date their customers and the public; representing
also that their distance from Easton, and the un-
certainty of getting facilities once a week, said In-
stitution discounting but once a week, thus com-
pelling them to resort to the Delaware banks and

introduce the currency of a sister State; therefore:

May appoint
agent.

SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the President and Directors of
the Easton Bank of Maryland at Easton, be and they
are hereby authorised and empowered to appoint and
employ an agent or officer at Greensborough in Car-
oline county, whenever in the judgment of said
President and Directors, for the time being, the same
may be deemed by them proper and expedient.

Lawful for
agent.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall and may
he lawful for said agent or officer at Greensborough,
in Caroline county, to make exchanges and discounts
and negotiable sight drafts and time drafts and accep-
tances, at not more than four months, for and on ac-
count of the said Easton Bank of Maryland, without
the presence of the President and five Directors, or a
majority of any Board of Directors of the said Eas-
ton Bank of Maryland, as now required by the eighth
article of the act of eighteen hundred and fifty-three,
chapter 441, chartering said institution.

Agent under
control.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said agent
or officer shall be under the control and direction of
the President and Directors of the said Easton Bank
of Maryland, and the said bank in all respects re-
