CHAPTER 31.

AN ACT to alter and change the name of John,
White, of the City of Baltimore, to the name of
John W. Maxfield.
|
|
|
Name changed.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That from and after the passage of
this act, the name of John While, of the City of Bal-
timore, be and the same is hereby changed and al-
tered to that of John W. Maxfield, and it shall and
may be lawful for the said John White at all times
hereafter to be called and known by, to hold and use
the name of John W. Maxfield, and by that name to
purchase, hold, sell, contract, convey or devise, and
to sue and be sued, in any court of law or equity, or
before any justice of the peace or other law officer to
the same extent he could have done under the name
of John White.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act is intended to invalidate any lawful acts, contracts,
or doings of the said John White, by that name, prior
to the passage of this act, but to confirm the same.

AN ACT to pay Henry M. Murray for services ren-
dered the State in the case of McPherson Lyles,
tried for murder at the April term of the circuit
court for Anne Arundel county, eighteen hundred
and fifty four.
|
|
|
Treasurer to
pay.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Treasurer upon the war-
rant of the Comptroller is hereby authorized and re-
quired to pay to the order of Henry M. Murray the
sum of one hundred dollars for legal services render-
ed the said State in the above cause, at the instance
and request of the Governor.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from its passage.
