AN ACT to authorise the County Commissioners of
St. Mary's county, to levy a sum of money upon
the assessable property of said county for the
erection of a county jail.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the County Commissioners of St.
Mary's county be and they are hereby authorised if in
their judgment it shall be advisable to have erected in
some suitable location in Leonardtown, in said coun-
ty a suitable county jail, and to levy on the assessable
property of said county, a sum not exceeding fifteen
hundred dollars for the purpose of paying the ex-
pense of erecting said jail.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That said County Com-
missioners be and they are hereby authorised to dis-
pose of at public sale on reasonable notice the pres-
ent jail-house and land on which it is built, on such
terms as they may deem expedient, and the proceeds
thereof shall be applied to the building of the new
jail herein authorised to be erected.
