CHAPTER 207.

Passed Mar.
8, 1856.

AN ACT relative to the establishment of a Light
House on Drum Point, at the mouth of the Patux-
ent river, in Calvert county, and to cede to the
United States the jurisdiction of the State of Ma-
ryland, in, to, and over a site for the same.

In force.

WHEREAS, the navigation of the Chesapeake bay, at
the mouth of the Patuxent river, requires for its
safety the establishment of a Light House, and
whereas, the government of the United States has
made an adequate appropriation for that object
which will be applied under the direction of the
Light House board, as soon as the proper site can
be obtained at a just value; Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Alexander Somerville, of Calvert
county, and Isaac Denson, of the City of Baltimore,
be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to
ascertain and fix a fair value upon any site or sites,
which may be selected at or near Drum Point, by any
authorised agent of the United States for the purpose
of establishing a light house, a house for the keeper
to the in, and a garden spot thereon, with a power
to said commissioners to fill vacancies in their body,
to fix and determine the value of the land required by
the agent of the United States for the aforesaid ob-
ject; and they, or a majority of said commissioners,
shall be and are hereby authorised, after they have
given thirty days notice in two of the most conveni-
ent newspapers, to value and appraise said land, ta-
king into consideration the advantages and disadvan-
tages to the proprietor or proprietors, attendant upon
the establishment of a Light house as aforesaid, on the
land aforesaid, and including in said valuation a rea-
sonable allowance for the use and privilege of a road
from the said land through the lands of any proprie-
tor or proprietors, if any such road shall be deemed or
found necessary, and the decision of a majority of
the commissioners aforesaid shall be considered con-
clusive and final between the parties, unless an appeal
shall thereafter be prosecuted as is hereinafter provi-
ded; and the value of the land, together with the right
of way thereto as aforesaid, being paid, or offered to
be paid to said commissioners, or to the proprietor or
