purchase, or have, take, and hold to them, and their
successors, in fee or for any less estate, any lands,
tenements or hereditaments within said Parish, by
the gift, bargain, sale or devise, of any person or per-
sons, bodies politic and corporate, capable of making
the same, and such lands, &c., to use, manage or culti-
vate, or to let to cultivation in such manner as they may
judge most conducive to the interests of said Parish;
especially to hold the same, if they see fit, as a place
of residence for the Rector of said Parish, and to ap-
propriate and apply the profits or returns therefrom

for his comfortable maintenance and support; Pro-
vided always, That the lands &c., hereby authorized
to be so held, shall not exceed in quantity one hun-
dred and fifty acres, and that the clear yearly value
of the estate now or hereafter to be held by said
Vestry, (exclusive of the rents of pews, collections
in churches, funeral charges, and the like,) shall not
exceed two thousand dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the day on which it may be passed.

AN ACT to authorize the erection of a Bridge across
the north branch of Trent Creek, in Saint Mary's
County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the County Commissioners of
Saint Mary's county, be and they are hereby author-
ized to appoint three commissioners, who shall have
the power to contract for the building of a suitable
and substantial bridge across the north branch of
Trent creek, on the road leading from All Faith
Church, in Saint Mary's county to Benedict, in
Charles county, and that said County Commission-
ers shall levy on the assessable property of Saint
Mary's county a sum sufficient to pay for such Bridge
when erected according to the contract, not to exceed
the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars.
