HOUSE JOURNAL
SPECIAL SESSION
Annapolis, Md., March 8, 1956.
State of Maryland, to wit :
This being the day appointed by the Governor for a Special Session
of the General Assembly at 10:00 o'clock A. M., Mr. George W. Owings, Jr.,
Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates for the regular thirty (30) day
session for 1956, called the House of Delegates to order.
Prayer was offered by the Rev. Joseph R. Clair of St. Thomas
Episcopal Church, Hancock, Md. as follows:
Almighty God—blessed be thy holy name—grant and continue unto
us a succession of Legislators and leaders who have been taught of Thee
and are possessed of wisdom which Thou dost bestow upon those who
humbly ask for the same.
Endow Thy servant Theodore, the Governor of this Free State of
Maryland and on Thy servants John Luber and all members of this
Assembly, with a right understanding, a pure purpose and sound speech:
enable them to rise above all self-seeking and party zeal into the larger
sentiments of public good and human brotherhood.
Do Thou purge our life of every evil. Be Thou our guide. Inspire us
with calmness and self-restraint and the endeavor to get Thy will done
to the honor and glory of Thy great name and for the common weal.
All this we ask in the name of Him who did more fully reveal Thy
will to man, Jesus Christ our Lord.
