and record made up by him in some repository of the courthouse of
the county or city, or in such other place of safety as the said court
may appoint; and the county commissioners of the county and mayor
and city council of Baltimore shall provide and keep in repair the said
respository at the charge of the county or city. During his term of
office any register of wills absent in the military service of the United
States government during time of war shall be considered on leave of
absence without pay while in such military service and for ninety
days thereafter. for the period of such absence the duly appointed
and qualified deputy register of wills shall, after giving bond as pre-
scribed in § 285 of this sub-title, perform all the duties of the office of
register of wills and receive the salary provided by law for that office.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1955.

CHAPTER 75
(House Bill 279)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 704 of
Article 11 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition as amended by Chapter 306 of the Acts of 1953), title
"Frederick County", sub-title "Roads", relating to the erection and
maintenance of stop signs along the rights-of-way of the county
roads in Frederick County and to the penalty for failing to obey
any such signs.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 704 of Article 11 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition as amended by Chapter 306 of the Acts of
1953), title "Frederick County", sub-title "Roads", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

704. The Board of County Commissioners of Frederick County
shall erect and maintain, out of the receipt of its office, along the
rights-of-way of the County Roads, the necessary stop signs and the
necessary signs, signals, markers, or road names, for the purpose of
directing the traveling public, warning them of danger, or for any
other purpose which in the opinion of the Roads Board may be right
or proper; any person who fails to obey such stop signs, unless traffic
is controlled by traffic signals or officers, shall be guilty of a mis-
demeanor and subject to a fine of not less than $5.00 nor more than
$25.00;
and any person who removes, damages or defaces any such
signs, signals, markers or road names shall be guilty of a mis-
demeanor and fined a sum not less than $25.00 nor more than $100.00;
