of Law Examiners in subjects specified by said rule of the State
Board of Law Examiners in order to show that his or her education
is equivalent to the standard of pre-legal education established and
required by Sections 3 and 4 of this Article. Prior to taking such
last mentioned examination, applicants shall pay to the State Board
of Law Examiners a fee not in excess of the cost involved in giving
such examination, which said fee shall be determined and fixed by
rule or resolution passed or adopted by said Board.]

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

(Senate Bill 404)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 436-A of
the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949
Edition), as added by Chapter 773 of the Acts of 1953, being
Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Baltimore City", sub-title "People's Court", providing for an
increase in pensions for elected Judges of the People's Court of
Baltimore City and relating generally to the amounts of such
pensions and the procedure for paying them and providing further
for a new section to be known as 436-B and to follow immediately
after Section 436-A thereof, providing a pension for widows of
such Judges.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 436-A of the Charter of Public Local Laws of Baltimore
City (1949 Edition), being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Baltimore City", sub-title "People's Court",
be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

436-A. Every elected Judge of the People's Court of Baltimore
City shall be paid, after the termination of his active service, if
he is then at least sixty years of age or when he becomes sixty years
of age, a pension or salary calculated at the rate of [Three Hundred
Dollars ($300.00)3 Three Hundred Fifty Dollars ($350.00) per
annum for each year, or any part thereof of active service by
appointment and election as a Judge of said People's Court, up to
and including twenty years of such active service, so that the maxi-
mum pension or salary, for such service payable hereunder to any
one person shall not exceed the sum of [Five Thousand Dollars
($5,000.00)] Seven Thousand Dollars ($7,000.00) per annum. Any
former Judge who accepts any salaried public office or position,
municipal, county, state or federal, shall not be paid any such pen-
