CHAPTER 530
(House Bill 755)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5 (c) of
Article 88B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1954 Supple-
ment), title "State Police", increasing the salaries of the police
employees of the Department of Maryland State Police AND PRO-
VIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF SUCH INCREASE DURING
THE FIRST FISCAL YEAR.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5 (c) of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1954 Supplement), title "State Police", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

5. Employees; ranks and grades; salaries; pensions,
(c) Salaries. Salaries to be paid to police employees of the Depart-
ment shall be as follows:

Superintendent .............................................[$8,000]    $8,500

Major ............................................................[ 5,200]     5,700

Captain ..........................................................[ 3,800]     4,300

Lieutenant .....................................................[ 3,500]     4,000

Examining physician...................................[ 3,200]     8,700

Sergeant major.............................................[ 3,200]     8,700

First Sergeant..............................................[ 3,150]     3,650

Detective sergeant........................................[ 3,150]     8,650

Sergeant (quartermaster) ..........................[ 3,150]     3,650

Sergeant mechanic........................................[ 3,150]     3,650

Sergeant ........................................................[ 2,950]     3,450

Corporal........................................................[ 2,850]     3,350

Trooper 1/c ...................................................[ 2,750]     3,250

Trooper ..........................................................[ 2,650]     3,150

Trooper probationer, 2nd year...................[ 2,550]     3,050

Trooper probationer, 1st year.....................[ 2,450]     2,950

Any police employee receiving the salary hereinbefore specified
for the rank which he holds when this section becomes effective
shall not have such salary reduced by reason of the establisnmeni;
of the salary schedule herein prescribed for said rank, so long as
he shall remain incumbent in that rank; provided, however, that the
holder of the title of senior captain shall receive the annual salary
of [$4,300.] $4,800.

SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THE
MONIES REQUIRED TO PAY AN INCREASE IN SALARIES
PROVIDED IN THIS ACT DURING THE FISCAL YEAR BE-
GINNING JULY 1, 1955, SHALL BE TRANSFERRED FROM
SPECIAL FUNDS HELD BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR
VEHICLES PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION
303 OF ARTICLE 66 1/2 OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARY-
