CHAPTER 500
(House Bill 558)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section (g)
of Section 38 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition and 1954 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title
"Compensation and Duties", relating to the salaries of the deputy
sheriffs in Cecil County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (g) of Section 38 of Article 87 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition and 1954 Supplement), title "Sher-
iffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
38.
(g). The Sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an annual salary
of $3,500 and $400 for expenses. Commencing with the beginning of
the next term of office, the sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an
annual salary of $4,000, and no allowance for expenses except as
hereinafter provided. The sheriff shall appoint a first deputy sheriff,
who shall receive an annual salary of [$2,600] $8,100; and a second
deputy sheriff, who shall receive an annual salary of [$2,300] $8,100.
The sheriff and deputy sheriffs shall be entitled to an expense allow-
ance for travel at the rate of seven cents ($.07) per mile actually
traveled, in connection with the duties of his office, and they shall
submit monthly vouchers, stating such mileage under oath, to the
county commissioners of Cecil County. The sheriff's office shall also
receive an appropriation of $1,500, to be used for special investiga-
tions and employees, subject to the approval of the county com-
missioners.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.

(House Bill 563)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 254 of
Article 16 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Chancery", sub-title "Sales", relating to the amount of
money to be allowed as funeral expenses of a decedent when the
real estate of a decedent is sold to pay debts.
