by the Director of Probation in carrying out the functions and duties
of the Department.

213F. Salaries. The salaries of all personnel in the Department
shall be fixed by the Court, subject to the approval of the County
Commissioners. The County Commissioners are hereby authorized
to make all levies and appropriations necessary to provide for the
salaries so fixed and all expenses and costs properly incurred under
this sub-title.

213G. All regular employees and officers of the Department shall
be entitled to membership in the County Retirement and Pension
Systems and shall be entitled to the same right and duties thereunder
as other County employees.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 55 of Article 26
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Courts",
sub-title "Juvenile Causes", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

55. [The] Unless probation facilities under the Court's super-
vision are otherwise provided by public local law, the
Judge may
appoint a suitable person to act as probation officer, who shall receive
such salary or compensation as may be fixed by the County Com-
missioners and such actual traveling expenses as may be approved
by the County Commissioners. The County Commissioners of two
or more counties of either one or more judicial circuits, with the ap-
proval of the Circuit Courts of such counties,
may extend the work
of any such probation officer or the work of any such probation facili-
ties
to two or more counties of either one or more judicial circuits,
whenever by reason of the volume of work to be handled or from
another cause such arrangements [is] are deemed best. Nothing in
this sub-title shall be construed adversely to affect the status, either
as to compensation or as to tenure of employment, of any probation
officer employed by any Circuit Court immediately prior to June 1,
1945.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That any and all public general
and public local laws, or any part or parts thereof, inconsistent with
the provisions of this Act, be and they are hereby repealed to the
extent of any such inconsistency.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1955.
