(c). The annual salary of each assessor shall be determined by the
classification of his respective county or of Baltimore City as estab-
lished by the State Tax Commission and in accordance with the
schedules of compensation herein set forth. The salaries of all
assessors herein provided shall be paid monthly, semi-monthly or
bi-weekly by the several counties and Baltmore City. A sum equiva-
lent to one-half of the annual salary shall be paid by the Comptroller
for the State of Maryland from general funds to the several counties
and to Baltimore City, such payments to be made to the said counties
and City quarterly. The several counties and Baltimore City are
hereby directed to levy annually such sums as may be required to pay
the remaining one-half of these salaries. The following classifica-
tions and their respective schedules prescribing a minimum and maxi-
mum salary rate with automatic increases from minimum to maxi-
mum, at the rate of 20% each year for a period of five years, shall
apply to the assessors of each county and Baltimore City:

Class A ................[$3,350 to  $4,100] $3,550  to $4,300

Class B ................[ 3,050 to   3,800] 3,250  to 4,000

Class C ................[ 2,550 to    3,300] 2,750  to 8,500

Class D ...............[ 2,100 to    2,800] 2,300  to 3,000

In addition to the above classifications, there shall be such addi-
tional class or classes, with different maximum and minimum salaries
for Baltimore City, as may be determined by the State Tax Com-
mission after consultation with the Board of Estimates of Baltimore
City.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1955.

(House Bill 15)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 135 of
Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Corporations", sub-title "Payment of Wages", permitting
corporations and associations in Maryland to pay wages in cash
or by check, clarifying the wording as to time of payment of such
wages, and removing certain obsolete references therefrom.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 135 of Article 23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Corporations", sub-title "Payment of Wages",
